SARS TV Channel Premieres in Singapore

FREDRICKA WHITFIELD, CNN ANCHOR: SARS TV has hit the airwaves in Singapore. An entire television channel has been dedicated to getting out information and education to the public about SARS. CNN's Seema Mathur has more.
(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)
SEEMA MATHUR, CNN CORRESPONDENT (voice-over): An unlikely combination, competing media moguls in Singapore launch a new channel.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Four, three, two, one. Here we go.
MATHUR: The programming -- all SARS, 12 hours a day, seven days a week.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: We wanted to have one source where we could aggregate, bring all of this content together, for people to be able to view it.
MATHUR: Ninety-five percent of households are expected to not only get the usual news and official press conferences, but soap operas and sitcoms, real-life drama turned entertaining and educational. And apparently, there is an appetite for the information.
UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: When you know more about it, then you know how to take precaution better.
MATHUR: Singapore's praised for acting quickly to contain the virus through isolated medical care and home quarantine. But now, one more measure.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: In less than three weeks, the SARS Channel is born.
MATHUR: ... is on the air with a catchy slogan.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Know it to fight it.
MATHUR: Seema Mathur, CNN.
