ANDREA KOPPEL, CNN ANCHOR: The death toll is now four, from yesterday's crash of a small private plane into a building in Los Angeles. Searchers found two bodies yesterday and pulled two more from the rubble today. Three other people are in the hospital with injuries. CNN's Eric Horng has more.
(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)
ERIC HORNG, CNN CORRESPONDENT (voice over): Witnesses say the single-engine plane spiraled nose first into the three-story apartment building, setting the 14 unit complex on fire. Witnesses say the flames prompted at least one man inside to leap from a second-story window.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: I told him to hold on. He didn't want to hold on so he just jumped. And about six of us, we just caught him.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: I just hear the explosion, because it blew both my windows out in my bedroom. It woke me up.
HORNG: While dozens of firefighters battled the flames, injured residents were transported to hospitals. Fire officials said the pilot of the four-seat plane was killed in the crash. And piece of the aircraft were found amidst the building's smoky ruins.
DEPUTY CHIEF MARIO RUDEA, LAPD: We did find a part of a propeller on the roof. And the fuselage of the aircraft inside.
HORNG: Though federal agents were sent to the scene, a spokesperson at the FBI's Los Angeles field office said there was no initial indication the crash was terrorism related. Still, police said, as a precaution they were treating the crash site as a crime scene.
CHIEF JIM MCDONNELL, LAPD: When an incident like this happens we prepare for whatever eventuality could happen. At this point we have nothing to believe, or lead us to believe that it is nothing other than an accident.
HORNG: The National Transportation Safety Board and Federal Aviation Administration will now head up the investigation to try to figure out what caused this deadly crash.
Eric Horng, CNN, Los Angeles.
