ANDREA KOPPEL, CNN ANCHOR: A new twist in the search for missing Baylor University basketball player, Patrick Dennehy. Just minutes ago, investigators held a press conference to discuss a body found near Waco, Texas. Could it be the body of Dennehy, who has been missing since June 12 and presumed dead? CNN's Mike Brooks is standing by in Waco with more on the press conference and the search for Dennehy.
Mike, we understand that the body is at the coroner's right now. The autopsy is under way. When can we have an idea what they determine?
MIKE BROOKS, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Well, Andrea, they really didn't say at this press conference when they would have an identification. It probably will take at least a day or so.
Just a few minutes ago, as you said, we heard from Sheriff Larry Lynch of the McClellan County Sheriff's Department.
The body was found at about 7:50 last evening by investigators who had gone there on information they received from the Waco Police Department. Now, they decided not to go ahead and do anything with the body then because the light was starting to get -- it was starting to get too dark. They went back this morning and started to work the crime scene.
His body has been taken to Dallas to a forensic lab there for identification. The parents of Patrick Dennehy were notified by the sheriff's department about 9:00 this morning. We also spoke with his parents a short time ago, and they said that the sheriff's department told them that they don't know whether it is the body of Patrick Dennehy or not -- Andrea.
KOPPEL: So, Mike, in terms of where we stand right now, it sounds as if you're saying it's going to be about another 24 hours or so, maybe longer, before we know for sure whether or not the body is, in fact, Dennehy's?
BROOKS: Well, the body was badly decomposed, Andrea. And they'll have to go on dental records and other medical records that they have of Patrick Dennehy to see if it is him or not. So as an investigator, I can tell you, an autopsy like this, an identification usually takes somewhere between 24 and 48 hours. But, again, being badly decomposed is going to slow the process down some, but hopefully they'll have something within that timeframe -- Andrea.
KOPPEL: Mike Brooks in Waco, Texas, thank you very much.
