Body Found In Waco, Texas Suspected To Be Patrick Dennehy

ANDREA KOPPEK, CNN ANCHOR: We begin this hour with reports from Waco, Texas, that a body has been found in the area where authorities have been searching for missing basketball player Patrick Dennehy. The sheriff's department, there, can only confirm that a body has been found, but cannot say if it is the Baylor basketball player.
Dennehy was last seen on June 12th. His Baylor teammate, Carlton Dotson, has been living with Dennehy earlier for a few months and has been charged just last week with Dennehy's murder. CNN's Mike Brooks is in Waco and has been covering Dennehy's disappearance.
Mike, what are you hearing there? We know that there have been false leads before. Do investigators believe that this, in fact, could be Dennehy's body?
MIKE BROOKS, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Andrea, I spoke, just a few moments ago, with the public information officer for the Waco police department, Sergeant Ryan Holt, and he did confirm that a body was found out in the general vicinity where they were searching two, actually three days ago. Which is about five miles away from the Baylor campus, east of there, in an old gravel -- in an abandoned gravel pit. So, we're attempting to find out a little bit more, now. They would not say whether the -- it is in fact the body of Patrick Dennehy.
KOPPEL: Mike, beyond the location of the body's discovery is there anything else that Waco investigators are telling you that may make them more confident that perhaps this time it could be the body?
BROOKS: We've -- had been speaking to them on a regular basis, just about every single day, at least once a day, and when we spoke to one of the investigators yesterday, he said that they weren't going to be actively searching today. Who -- how the body was found, who found it, we don't know, the details are very sketchy, right now, but we hope to have more for you a little bit later on.
KOPPEL: We are looking at live pictures, right now, of the area in Waco Texas, where the search has been going on and where the body, that has still not been identified, was found just a short time ago.
Mike, obviously for Patrick Dennehy's family and friends this is a very sensitive and incredibly emotional subject. Why is it that investigators believe this is the right area to be searching in?
BROOKS: Well, sources -- a source close to the investigation told me that when Carlton Dotson, who is in jail on -- in the eastern shore of Maryland, when he was talking with FBI investigators, last week, that they showed him a map and he pointed out different locations on a map where he said the body was. So, this is where they had been concentrating their efforts and it sounds like it is, basically, in the same area where they had been searching before.
Patrick Dennehy's family, they loaded up his personal belongings the day before yesterday and yesterday, were driving a U-haul back to Nevada with all his personal belongings from his apartment. So, they had not -- investigators told them that -- you know, they weren't going to be searching and that's why they headed on home, yesterday.

BROOKS: So, these new developments and we'll find out more information when we do have it, Andrea.
