ANDREA KOPPEL, CNN ANCHOR: Three more U.S. soldiers paid the price, the ultimate price, in Iraq today. The troops were guarding a children's hospital northeast of Baghdad when they came under attack. For the latest from Baghdad, CNN's Rym Brahimi joins us live -- Rym.
RYM BRAHIMI, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Andrea, indeed, those soldiers, as you said, were guarding a children's hospital, in the town of Baqouba which is about a 45 minute drive north of Baghdad. Now, apparently these soldiers were actually on a break. They were relaxing, playing cards in the hospital and it seems that the grenade that was thrown at them was thrown from within the compounds of the hospital. Now, that hospital has now been locked up and soldiers are going through the entire area to see what they can find.

As you know, in the past 24 hours Andrea, there have been a lot of raids conducted, in fact, U.S. Officials say that the raids conducted in the past 24 hours by U.S. Coalition forces and Iraqi people have lead to the arrests of hundreds of men, as well as thousands of weapons seized in and around -- in and around the Iraqi capital. That said, there was also another incident this morning in which soldiers from the 1st Armored Division, in Baghdad, were able to prevent an attack. They saw five Iraqi men trying to place some trip wire attached to a grenade across the road. They went and fired at the men, one got shot and killed and the four others were able to flee. That said, of course, Iraq, Baghdad in particular, remains a very unsafe place.

This morning, another incident, the newly appointed chief of police of Baghdad was wounded when he conducted a raid against suspected hijackers, and in the gun battle he was injured in the leg -- Andrea.

KOPPEL: Rym Brahimi in Baghdad, thanks very much.
