SOPHIA CHOI, CNN ANCHOR: And Pentagon correspondent Chris Plante joins us now.
Chris, there have been coalition raids in Iraq over the last 24 hours as well, haven't there?

CHRIS PLANTE, CNN CORRESPONDENT: There have, Sophia. A series of raids, 35 of them, to be specific, along with about 2,000 street patrols looking to round up criminals and other troublesome elements in large part in response to these attacks on U.S. troops. 242 people have been arrested. There were a total of 35 raids on specific locations, including a home belonging to gun runners.

A lot of weapons have been seized, including rocket propelled grenades appears to be the weapon of choice in these attacks against U.S. forces. And a significant number of people in custody for crimes ranging from murder to looting -- Sophia?

CHOI: A report about some charges against U.S. soldiers?

PLANTE: It's true. We're just getting the first details of charges that have been filed against four U.S. Army MPs that were working at a prisoner of war camp near Um Qasr, the port city in the south.

At this POW camp, these four MPs allegedly abused some Iraqi prisoners of war. Now they've been charged with a crime, but it's not clear yet whether they will go to trial, whether they'll go to court martial, which of course, the military equivalent of a trial.

The charges are still being investigated at this point. And it's not clear whether they will go forward. Investigation is still ongoing. Testimony being taken. Information still being gathered. So we're still following that - Sophia?

CHOI: Chris Plante at the Pentagon, thank you so much.
