ANDREA KOPPEL, CNN ANCHOR: Elsewhere in the Middle East, the spiral of violence continues. An exchange of gunfire in a refugee camp in southern Gaza. Palestinians say Israeli troops shot and killed a 9-year-old Palestinian girl on her bicycle. While Hamas vows revenge, more of its members are targeted. CNN's Matthew Chance has more.

MATTHEW CHANCE, CNN CORRESPONDENT (voice-over): Shouts of anger at the scene of Israel's latest deadly strike on Hamas. The vehicle was hit by rockets from a helicopter gunship in a densely populated Gaza refugee camp. Israel's campaign against the militants appears unrelenting.

Hospital workers say several bystanders caught in the attack are being treated for their injuries. Two Hamas militants have been confirmed dead. It brings to 10 the number killed in attacks like this in as many days.

NABIL AMR, PALESTINIAN INFORMATION MINISTER: We condemn this attack, which happened in Gaza today. We consider it as a part of comprehensive war against the Palestinians, and also against the opportunities of moving to the negotiations and to the political tract.

CHANCE: Within hours, the funerals of the latest dead, named Isfarit Mayat (ph) and Abdullah Aqul (ph), a prominent Hamas military commander. Israeli security sources say he was planning makeshift rocket attacks.

Since the killing of 21 people by a suicide bomber on a Jerusalem bus two weeks ago, Israel has stepped up its operations, saying every Hamas militant is a potential target for what it calls "liquidation."

GIDEON MEIR, ISRAELI FOREIGN MINISTRY: The continuous firing of missiles against our citizens and the fact that the Palestinian Authority was doing nothing, zero, in order to dismantle the infrastructure of terror, has left us with no choice but to go after the terrorists.

CHANCE: Hamas, though, says its revenge will be delivered soon to the Israeli streets. It seems the cycle of killing and counter- attack has returned here in force.
