CAROL LIN, CNN ANCHOR: Well, "Everybody Loves Raymond" is the favorite -- favorite pick, at least -- favorite to pick up the comedy Emmy at tomorrow night's TV awards ceremony. But "Curb Your Enthusiasm" is a contender, as is "Will and Grace."
Jodi Ross is in Los Angeles and she speaks perfect English, so she'll take it away from here.
JODI ROSS, CNN CORRESPONDENT: I will take over, Carol. I'm going to try to set the scene for you, OK?
We've got a red carpet here; it is down. It is covered in plastic, A, because it's so damp in Los Angeles in the mornings; and, B, because of cleanliness.
Over to my left is where the press will be. This includes me. It will be jam-packed. They've handed out over 1,000 media credentials, if you can imagine what this is going to look like tomorrow. It's going to be a zoo.
What they've also done, because it gets so warm here, is to install gigantic air conditioning units to keep the red carpet as cool as possible because it gets very hot here. It's hot right now, and it gets even worse.
What I want to tell you about the show that we know is that, instead of one host, there are going to be 11. You heard me right, 11 different comedians. I'll quickly give you names: Ellen DeGeneres, Dennis Miller, Bernie Mac, Brad Garrett, Darrell Hammond, George Lopez, Conan O'Brien, the list goes on and on.
Emmy producers tell us they want the show to have different comic viewpoints, not just one. It promises to be very funny. Bill Cosby is receiving a humanitarian award, the Bob Hope Humanitarian Award from Ray Romano.
It's going to be a funny show. A lot of funny men. One funny man you might not know about, though, is Tony Shalhoub. This actor is in a series called "Monk." He is nominated for an Emmy. And what's interesting about his category is normally there is about five nominees per category. There must have been a tie somewhere, because Tony's nomination makes it six.
That category is a pretty tough one, a pretty rough one. If you've never seen the show, we've got a clip for you, so take a look.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP) TONY SHALHOUB, ACTOR, "MONK": From this angle, that looks a little bit like food.
UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE, "MONK": It's vegetarian lasagna.
SHALHOUB: No, thank you.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
SHALHOUB: People relate to this guy. People have these kinds of quirks and idiosyncrasies and neuroses to varying degrees. But everybody can relate to it on some level.
(END VIDEOTAPE)
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
UNIDENTIFIED MALE, "MONK": Excuse me, what are you doing?
SHALHOUB, "MONK": I'm just making them even.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: But you're mixing regular with the decaf.
SHALHOUB: But they're even.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: But they're mixed together.
SHALHOUB: But they're even.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
SHALHOUB: Your expectations, of course, are high. But at a certain point, you know it's just out of our hands. So I have a very strong feeling that one of the six of us will come away with the Emmy.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
ROSS: Tony could possibly win. We'll have to see. I'm hearing a lot of "Sopranos" buzz around here. You know, they weren't in the Emmy competition last year but they're back this year.
Sunday night is going to be very interesting, Carol. And I'll be right here to bring you everything I can.
LIN: And we'll be watching. Thanks so much, Jodi Ross.
