CAROL LIN, CNN ANCHOR: One of the hottest shows in Las Vegas history is dark tonight and for many nights to come. Roy Horn of Siegfried and Roy fights for his life after a catastrophic mauling.
CNN's Miguel Marquez has the latest now from University Medical Center in Las Vegas. Miguel, I know you've been working this story all day. Any idea on why it is that this tiger attacked?
MIGUEL MARQUEZ, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Well, that's still a question yet to be answered. We know that the tiger, Monticore (ph), is in quarantine right now. And I think those answers will have to come later. But I think right now we're still talking about Mr. Horn, Roy Horn struggling to stay alive here at University Medical Center in Las Vegas.
He is the dark haired half -- normally the dark haired half of the Las Vegas duo. Last night, while performing their show at the Mirage, a show that they had performed for 13 and a half years at the Mirage, he suffered injuries to his neck when one of those famed white tigers attacked him during their show. These are pictures of that show taken about a year ago, and it's at the point, about 45 minutes into the show, when the 7-year-old tiger, Monticore (ph), is led on a leash by Roy Horn.
It was at this point, say audience members, that the tiger first lunged at Mr. Horn's arm. Mr. Horn hit the tiger with his microphone repeatedly, and then the tiger went for his neck, dragging him backstage. A long-time Las Vegas friend and fellow entertainer of Siegfried and Roy dropped by the hospital today to visit his friend, and he came out to talk to us afterwards and says it doesn't sound particularly good for Mr. Horn.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
BERNIE YUMAN, MANAGER, SIEGFRIED AND ROY: Siegfried is very strong- willed. And at the end of the day, he has unconditional faith. And he's holding up really well. And you know, in the face of tragedy, there's never been a stronger human being, at least that I've met, than Roy. And we -- you know we're all facing this together.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
MARQUEZ: That was Mr. Bernie Yuman, who is the manager of Siegried and Roy. He's managed them for 28 years, their entire career together. He says that they've been through 30,000 live performances together in their time and never had a scratch.
We also talked to Pam Gilette (ph), who is a very close friend of Roy Horn's. And here's what he had to say.
LIN: All right. Miguel, we don't have that sound. All right. I apologize there.
MARQUEZ: That's fine. Let me tell you real quickly, though, before we take off here that there are a couple of different signs here that we're hearing. That the hopeful signs in all of this is the fact that Mr. Horn was able -- they were able to stop the bleeding on the way to the hospital. And he was also talking to paramedics in the ambulance on the way to the hospital here.
On the bad side, though, on the negative side, he is still listed in critical condition. Nothing has changed with regard to his condition. And the other thing that we've also understood today is that his shows have been canceled through the Christmas break -- Carol.
LIN: All right. Thank you very much, Miguel Marquez, reporting live there from Las Vegas. We'll be talking to you later tonight on this story for the latest there.
