CATHERINE CALLAWAY, CNN ANCHOR: We're going to take you to Iraq now and a series of car bomb attacks. Officials say police appear to be the targets. The blast came outside of two station houses just North of Baghdad. More than a dozen people were killed. Many of them were police officers. We'll take you to Baghdad now where we find CNN's Walter Rodgers -- Walter.
WALTER RODGERS: Hello, Catherine. Not a very good day for American efforts to stabilize Iraq. Two very powerful suicide bombs, cars driving up and exploding at two separate police stations, just northeast of Baghdad. And if the Americans are hoping to get out of Iraq any time soon none of this is specious, because it suggests that the Iraqis are not capable yet, at least, of maintaining their own security. AT Con bunny Saud (ph) again about 12 miles northeast of Baghdad, just a little after sunrise this morning, a white Chevy Caprice pulled up to the police station. There was a huge, thunderous explosion as the car was tossed in the air of about, above a five-foot high earthen bank outside the police station and landed against the wall. At least half a dozen policemen there, all killed there, and additionally, a 5-year-old girl was killed. In Bakavo (ph) not far away again same incident, same sort of thing, suicide bomb attack. A car pulls up shortly after dawn this morning, explodes. It's very clear now Iraqis insurgents are trying to target police stations undermine the American efforts to install inditchenous (ph) Iraqi police force. Very demoralizing for the Iraqi police. More than 38 Iraqi police were killed, wounded or missing in these two suicide bombings today. And at Baghdad International Airport, again, this morning a very close call. A DHL airbus was fling in on its approach a shoulder-fired, surface-to-air missile, hit the left wing of the plane coming in. Quite remarkably, the pilot was able to land the crippled plane. The wing was on fire. Landed at the airport. No fatalities there, but, again, none of this bodes well for an early American exit from Iraq any time soon. Catherine?
CALLAWAY: That is an incredible photograph. Incredible that pilot was able to land that plane, Walter. Thank you. CNN's Walter Rodgers.
