RENAY SAN MIGUEL, CNN ANCHOR: Other news now, 20 miles of interstate road will be off limits to drivers in Columbus, Ohio less than three hours from now. The reason: more investigation, after a string of shootings aimed at motorists. We get the latest now from CNN's Martin Savidge, he is live in Columbus, Ohio. Martin.
MARTIN SAVIDGE, COLUMBUS, OHIO: Hello Renay, they're going to start shutting down that highway about two hours from now, actually. Beginning around 4:00 they'll start the process, not easy. This is a stretch of roadway that handles about 70,000 to nearly 80,000 cars and trucks on every single day. It is going to be a problem, but it will be a help to investigators.
What investigators want to do, get out in the areas where the shootings have occurred. We are talking about an eight to ten mile stretch of road where the shooting sprees have been focused, and they'll bring in sophisticated equipment and try to use that to gain more clues, more insights as to who may be carrying out these attacks.
They're motivated by the fact that yesterday the number of shootings that have been fit into the case category has increased from 12 to now 14. Fortunately, no one else has been hurt; no one else has been killed. Still, it's very alarming.
Both cases that have been added, one was on Sunday, a woman driving in her car, heard a loud noise, and realized she a flat tire. Turns out a bullet hole were in it.
And then on Sunday night, maybe Monday there is a home in that area where a bullet struck right through the front wall of the home and the bullet ended up laying on the floor. Nobody was in the house when the bullet hit, when the owners came home though they were very surprised to what they found. Donald Flitch lives in the house here is his story.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
DONALD FITCH, HOUSE HIT BY GUNFIRE: Come through the outside of the house here, ricocheted off the wall there and fell down behind the computer desk here. Then the police picked it up.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
SAVIDGE: And that is the key. The police did pick up the bullet and ran a ballistics check on it and found that it matched with four other bullets that they have. All of them being fired from the same weapon. One of those bullets, that is, fatally killed a 62-year-old woman back on November 25. That has been the only casualty and the only person that has been harmed in all of this, but, still, a very tragic scenario and the fact that new shootings have occurred since her death is troubling to authorities, which is why they are closing the highway down to try to find out who may be responsible -- Renay.
MIGUEL: Martin Savidge is on the story in Columbus, Ohio. Thank you Martin.
