RENAY SAN MIGUEL, CNN ANCHOR: The other big story, the first snowstorm of the season in the northeast is taking the blame for several traffic deaths. People are knee deep in snow from Maine to Pennsylvania.
In New York's Times Square, it is Christmastime in the city, and it sure looks like it. Jane King is sloshing through the snow in Central Park -- not dashing, but sloshing, and she joins us live from there.
JANE KING, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Hi Renay, good afternoon to you. Well, this major snowstorm is continuing to pummel New York as we head into the late afternoon here. In fact, the blizzard warning for New York City and the surrounding areas has been extended to midnight tonight from 10:00 p.m.
We do expect these winds to continue. Wind gusts up to 40 to 45 miles per hour, and temperatures in the wind chills coming today. This is the way that you get around the city on a day like today. I've rounded up this family -- you're New Yorkers, right?
UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Yes.
KING: What's your name?
UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: I'm Cindy Trow (ph).
KING: Tell me, you're on cross country skies. Is this the best way to get around the city today?
UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: If it's not the best way, it's certainly one of the fun ways to get around.
KING: It certainly looks like a lot of fun. And what's your name?
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Roland Trow (ph).
KING; And you tell me that you cross country ski to work all the time.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: When I can. When it snows like this, yes.
KING: Are you having a good time?
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: This is wonderful. Snow's terrific.
KING: And, finally, Winston, right?
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Yes.
KING: And how old are you?
UNIDENTIIFIED MALE: 7.
KING: And you're going to go sledding later?
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Yes -- hopefully.
KING: Where are you going to go sledding?
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: We're going to go on a big hill that's probably one of the most popular sledding hills in New York, by the left side of the Metropolitan Museum. A lot of kids go there.
KING: Well, sounds like a good time. Thank you for sticking around. Have a great time. This blizzard here that we're having in New York.
And in fact, Renay, a lot of people seem to be enjoying this snowstorm. It's making some people giddy although I'm sure that is not the case at the airports. In fact, we're seeing several hundred cancellations at the three metropolitan airports. If flights are not canceled, they are delayed.
We're probably going to be seeing that for the next couple of days as the airlines try to catch up with some of the flights that have been delayed. And of course, all this, and it's not even winter yet. That officially begins December 22. Renay, back to you.
