CAROL LIN, CNN ANCHOR: Well, many people are spending the weekend crossing names off their holiday shopping list. But what about something with a double whammy, a gift that actually helps a worthy cause. Danny Seo with "Organic Style" magazine is here with some great ideas. And you brought some of them with you today. Let's talk about some ideas for kids because I think they tend to be tough to buy for.
DANNY SEO, "ORGANICS STYLE": They are and you have to start with kids always for the holidays. So you got this great plush toy here. It is from ...
LIN: I know, I fell in love with him. That dog.
SEO: Little dog. I got this for my nephew actually. It is from Build A Bear Workshop. And that's a store you can go into and customize your own animals. And Build A Bear, I selected nine different animals in their collection of plush animals. This one is a dog. And it's for the Humane Society of the United States. And they've got like a leopard that helps the World Wildlife Fund. They've got another bear with glasses that helps literacy programs. It is like obvious animals for obvious areas.
LIN: How much of the price actually goes to the worthy cause?
SEO: I don't know what the percentage is, but I know hundreds of thousands of dollars have been raised for the charities. So it is a legitimate and very good program.
LIN: All right, then, and some greeting cards actually achieve that as well.
SEO: Yes, this is a real simple greeting card. It is from Pier One. And they have teamed up with Unicef. And these are all designed by children all over the world. And Unicef is an organization that helps kids all over the world. These are $10 at any Pier One store. But here is the cool part, $10 goes to UNICEF.
LIN: Oh, great.
SEO: So 100 percent ...
LIN: And they looks like kids drawings too.
SEO: They are very cute and you might as well, you know, gets cards that help a good charity. So $18 million has been raised been raised through this program.
LIN: Terrific. What about for adults, adult products.
SEO: OK, well, we've got - this is something that was featured in the magazine. We did a holiday gift guide, 50 great gift ideas. And this is cashmere. You have to feel this.
LIN: All right. So, I live the fact that it gives back, but to whom?
SEO: But what's organic about it?
LIN: Yes.
SEO: They - this is from Stewart Brown and they use free roaming Mongolian goats to make their sweaters. And at "Organic Style" we like to be kind to animals.
LIN: The goats are still alive and still producing cashmere.
SEO: Yes, they get to roam freely and then we make them into sweaters.
LIN: Lovely.
SEO: But it is also a nice gift to give.
LIN: OK.
SEO: Aveda products are always great for the holidays. Aveda is something that we love at the magazine. They use organic and all natural plant-based materials for their products. What is a little different this season is they are using gift sets that are premade and they are also reusable. And so what you can see is that they are all made out of wood and really sturdy materials. What we like to do at the magazine is like fill them with cotton balls or something after they are used as a gift.
LIN: Also, you can recycle the packaging.
Seo: You can reuse it and reuse it. It is made from recycled materials too. And it comes with great Aveda products.
LIN: OK, great, what else have you got here?
SEO: I don't want to forget kids. One more thing, I love these little booties from Timberlands. What is great about Timberland is they've designated different products that help share our strength, and share our strength to this great charity that is anti-hunger and anti-poverty. These are the crib booties. And I got these from my nephew too. They are $25 and over I think $200,000 has been raised for Share Our Strength so far in the sale of different products through Timberland.
LIN: OK, great, now what, speaking of kids and kids toys, you've got those batteries and once you use them up what do you do with them? SEO: Well, you know, a lot of us throw them away. And a lot of the products that we have like cell phones, and cordless drills and electronic toys that you recharge over and over again, eventually the battery can't be charged anymore so we will just toss it. But there is a lot of real terrible chemicals in those batteries. This is not gift. This is a drop box. This is from the Rechargeable Battery Recycling Corporation. It is a nonprofit organization. These boxes are available at stores like Radio Shack, Best Buy, Target.
LIN: So what does it do?
SEO: Basically, you take your rechargeable batteries, when you can't use them anymore, you take this bag, put the battery inside, seal it up and drop it off. It gets shipped to a recycling center and made into new metal products.
LIN: All right, so that is a gift to mother earth.
SEO: Yes, it is a cool thing to do. We really, really love this.
LIN: It is something we can all benefit from long term. Thanks so much, Danny.
SEO: My pleasure.
LIN: Danny Seo, great gift ideas. And if you want to leave any of them behind for the staff, we will make good use of them.
SEO: No problem.
LIN: All right, you have a wonderful holiday season.
SEO: You too.
