FREDRICKA WHITFIELD, CNN ANCHOR: How about warming up your golf game this winter? The latest issue of "Travel and Leisure Golf" highlights several greens with mild weather.
And Anneliese Turck is an associate editor at the magazine, and she joins us from New York. Good to see you.

ANNELIESE TURCK, T0L GOLF MAGAZINE: Good to see you too, Fredricka. Thank you.

WHITFIELD: I would think that this is peak season and, thereby, you wouldn't find any good deals. A lot of the resorts want to, you know, up the ante during peak season.

TURCK: Absolutely.

Well, in some locations it is the peak season. But the great thing is there are destinations where it's the off-season where the weather is actually mild enough to golf in. The five package deals that were picked today for you guys feature a variety of destinations.

WHITFIELD: All right. Let's go through them.

The Four Seasons resort at Aviara Carlsbad, California.

TURCK: Absolutely. Now this is just north of San Diego. It's your typical Southern California, Spanish colonial style luxury golf resort. Absolutely, all about relaxing. They are offering what's called the ultimate golf deal. The ultimate golf deal starts at $295 per night based on double occupancy. It's good through March 31. And it includes accommodations, two rounds of golf per night. And this is basically substantial savings. So you're getting great golf at a great resort at great savings.

WHITIFIELD: That's a really nice deal.

OK. I can see what you mean. The off-season, maybe, like, your Pinehurst resort in Pinehurst, North Carolina, not necessarily a place that everyone would want to go this time of year. But you say this offer is one you may not want to refuse.

TURCK: Absolutely now. And you know why? Because the U.S. Open is being hosted there in 2005.

WHITIFIELD: Oh, boy. TURCK: It was also hosted there in 1999. So this package is great. Great opportunity for those that are looking to play an open course.

This is a major championship course. And although it is the off- season, Pinehurst right now is in the 60s, mid 60s. So bring along a turtleneck and a sweater and you're set to go.

The package is called the premier golf package. And starting at $770 per person for two nights -- - get this, you get two nights in the Carolina, which is the main hotel, two breakfasts, two dinners and three rounds of golf. One of those rounds of golf is guaranteed on Donald Ross's famed No. 2 course. This is the course that hosted the 1999 U.S. Open and will again host the U.S. Open in 2005.

WHITFIELD: Not bad at all. So just have a little light sweater, maybe even a jacket.

TURCK: Absolutely.

WHITIFELD: Not a bad tradeoff.

Well, perhaps you want to go even further south and, you know, be able to pull out the Bermuda shorts or something. And for that you go to Turnberry Isle in Aventura, Florida. And that's a beautiful location no matter what.

TURCK: Oh, spectacular. This is -- - Turnberry Isle Resort and Club is a private resort. It's just north of Miami, just south of Ft. Lauderdale, so you've got easy access to both of those airports.

What they're offering right now is called the tee time deal. And tee time includes resort accommodations, unlimited daily greens fees at the resort's two courses. Both Robert Trent Jones, sr., designs the north and the south. You know -- - hey, if you're in the colder climates and looking for a place to get away where it's warm -- - it is the high season down there -- - Turnberry Isle Resort and Club would be place to go. As I saw from your latest forecast, it's in the 80s down there, so, hey...

WHITFIELD: All right. Well, maybe you're looking for a little beach action or something also close to the water -- something equally close to the water. Either Lanai, Hawaii, or even Acapulco, Mexico. And you've got two destinations there. And we'll go through both of those quickly.

TURCK: Sure.

Well, hey, if it's any indication in Hawaii, the PGA Tour starts their West Coast Hawaii swing next week with the Mercedes Championships on Maui. Maui is just west of Lanai. What is being offered is called the four-by-four adventure package. And this is all about adventure. You can choose from accommodations at either the resort -- the Manelle Bay Hotel or you can stay at the lodge at Koele. You get a choice of one daily activity each day for three nights. And one of those activities is a round of golf on either one of the two resort courses.

WHITIFELD: And Anneliese, we're running out of time. So real quickly, in Acapulco, New Mexico -- or Mexico, the Fairmont Pierre Mark Hotel (ph).

TURCK: Marquez.

WHITFIELD: Marquez was another that folks are going to have to check out your magazine in which to get more details, at T&L Golf Magazine.

Anneliese Turck, thanks very much. Happy New Year.

TURCK: Happy New Year to you.
