Glenn Beck
Is Iran Pushing for Armageddon?; Pete Rose Answers Tough Questions
Aired September 22, 2006 - 19:00 ET
THIS IS A RUSH TRANSCRIPT. THIS COPY MAY NOT BE IN ITS FINAL FORM AND MAY BE UPDATED.
GLENN BECK, HOST: Well, coming up, crazy dictator week at the U.N. finally over, but not before President Tom said one last crazy thing.
Plus, disgraced baseball legend Pete Rose will tell us why he should be in the hall of fame, coming up next.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
ANNOUNCER: Tonight`s program is brought to you by the new CBS drama "Jericho", the only show on TV that shamelessly exploits doomsday to get ratings -- well, except for us. How dare they?
(END VIDEO CLIP)
BECK: Oh, it does feel like that, doesn`t it? Listen, maybe it`s just knee, but if you`re like President Ahmadinejad, who`s been here forever, would you please leave?
Yesterday, he gave a little press conference. When he was asked about the U.N.`s deadline on Iran`s nuclear program, President Tom said that Kofi Annan basically told him not to worry, I`m quoting, not to worry. Ignore it. Everything will be fine, end quote.
This was a big story for a lot of people. In fact, most in the media, but that is only because they don`t pay attention to the things he says in his own country. This is what we`ve been talking about for the last couple of weeks. That`s why this program has decided to play translated clips of some of the propaganda and the rhetoric and the news in the Middle East. The stuff they see every day.
For example, if our media had listened to their media a few weeks ago, they would have heard this.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
MAHMOUD AHMADINEJAD, PRESIDENT OF IRAN: (speaking foreign language)
GRAPHIC: They issued a resolution, and made a bit of a mess. Nevertheless, Mr. Kofi Annan called me and said, "Don`t pay any attention to them. They were hasty, and what they did was not a good thing. Do what you have to do."
(END VIDEO CLIP)
BECK: Unbelievable. I have to tell you; I promise you that he will do on our best in this program to stay on top of these stories as they are shaped over in the Middle East. The stories that the mainstream media seems to ignore or I don`t know why they won`t translate, but we are.
I don`t trust President Tom at all. But I also don`t trust Kofi Annan, either. Now, Annan has denied this, but who`s telling the truth? If Kofi Annan actually did, in fact, say those things, then he is in violation of the U.N. charter. This is how screwed up the U.N. is. Kofi Annan reports to the Security Council, and the Security Council reports to nobody. This story will die and go away.
I actually think I agree with Hugo Chavez, at least on one thing. Shut the whole place down and ship it off someplace else.
Here`s tonight`s point: all week, President Tom has tried to pass himself off as a peacemaker and a statesman. He is neither. He is not a representative for his people. He is a servant of his God and, in this case, that is not a good thing.
Now, listen, here`s how I got there. We need to start listening to Ahmadinejad in his own language, not the clever sound bites that he`s using to charm Brian Williams. President Tom thinks we`re not listening to what he tells his own people, because he`s saying it in Farsi. And, you know what? He`s right -- except we`re listening.
Here are a few of his greatest hits. "As the imam said, Israel must be wiped off the map."
Like this one: "The wave of the Islamic revolution will soon reach the entire world."
And, of course, who could forget this ever loving classic: "Anybody who recognizes Israel will burn in the fire of the Islamic nation`s fury," end quote.
Now, call me paranoid -- well, actually, you`d be redundant, because I am paranoid. But when we`re talking about a country that says stuff like fire and fury and might be developing a nuke, I say we don`t just treat it as rhetoric. We have to take him seriously.
President Tom has repeatedly said, "We don`t need nuclear weapons. We need nuclear power. We just need it for energy." Bull crap. If he really had nothing to hide, then why won`t he let the U.N. weapons inspectors take a look-see?
As I see it, there are only two possibilities. One, he really is building a nuke, and he`s trying to hide it. I think that`s the most likely.
But there is a second option. Maybe he`s taking a page out of Saddam Hussein`s playbook. He isn`t building a nuke, but he wants us to believe he is so we will make the first move. This would lead to uniting of the entire Muslim world against us, and his goal of Armageddon would be right around the corner.
Listen -- when I say the word "Armageddon," it`s -- I mean, I just -- I`m not exaggerating. I want you to understand, President Tom, who this guy is. He`s rumored to belong to a secret society called the Hojati (ph). This is a group that if he belongs to it, they believe in creating chaos on earth. They believe that is actually a virtue in order to prepare the way for the imam`s second coming.
If this, indeed, is the case and Tom is indeed a member, then his claims of being peaceful go against his religious beliefs. This week, he stood on the floor of the U.N. and prayed for the return of the "just creator so the perfect man could rise up from the ashes." He is not serving his citizens. He is serving his God. And that`s why the media is missing his real danger: they don`t understand it.
Here`s what I know tonight. This guy should scare the crap out of you. He is not the circus clown that Chavez is. Chavez wants power and money. President Tom is actively seeking Armageddon.
Here`s what I don`t know. I don`t know how you watch this show every night without, you know, calling into your wife and say, "Honey, the guy on the TV is insane. He`s calling for Armageddon." I want you to understand. I`m not calling for Armageddon. I don`t think it is Armageddon. I hope that it is all crazy nonsense.
This is coming from the mouth of President Tom. I hope to God all of this stuff is just as crazy and as nuts as I think it is and I think you think it is. But the fact is, Ahmadinejad means it. And you need to hear about it.
Ilan Berman from the American Foreign Policy Council, am I insane, Ilan?
ILAN BERMAN, AMERICAN FOREIGN POLICY COUNCIL: No, Glenn, I don`t think you are.
This is an interesting point that you raise about Ahmadinejad`s apocalyptic messianic leanings, because what you have here is a failure to communicate on our part.
This is a man who is very much in the messianic vein. He`s not just a revolutionary, although he is that. He sees himself as a missionary. He espouses an ideological world view that actually courts confrontation with the west as a way of achieving the return of the 12th imam, the hidden imam, the Mahdi.
And I think this is something that I think should really concern us, because when we`re talking about what to do, there`s this tendency to think that, if they get nukes and we have nukes and the Israelis are presumed to have nukes, everything will be fine. We`ll just deter each other. But you can`t deter someone who`s actively courting Armageddon.
BECK: Right. And when you say -- I`m so glad you said Armageddon so it`s not just the nut job Glenn saying it. When you say this, I mean, I`m a Christian. When we`re talking Armageddon, Ilan, is it the same kind of Armageddon?
Or -- I mean, I want to make sure that we are presenting an accurate picture here, that it`s not just, "Oh, they`re throwing around Armageddon." We`re talking about the belief that the messiah is returning and two-thirds of the world is dead and everything else, right?
BERMAN: No, I think that`s pretty close to the mark. And, look, you mentioned the Hojati (ph) Society a little bit earlier. It`s useful to figure out exactly who these guys are.
This was a group that was started in the `70s as, essentially, a nationalist group, a xenophobic type of racist group, but it`s morphed into something that`s much more. Ahmadinejad belongs to the group. At least, that`s the rumor on the Iranian street.
This is a group that was so radical that the Ayatollah Khomeini banned them in the early 1980s. This is a group that essentially is anarchist. What they want to do is they want to create chaos, to sow chaos, both inside the country and outside the country, as a way of facilitating the Mahdi`s return. You have to break a few eggs to make an omelet.
BECK: Right. And this comes from -- I mean, if you were a Christian, you would understand that, you know, the Christ figure, the messiah, is not going to come until the whole world is in fire, and then he`s going to bring peace.
And that`s what they believe the 12th imam is going to do. After the whole world is on fire, then he comes and says, "OK, you`re ready for me. You`ve been purified. Let`s go for some peace."
Is that -- is that right?
BERMAN: I think that`s right. And that`s the reason that Khomeini, who certainly was no lover of international stability, actually banned these guys. He banned these guys because he saw them as a threat to what he was trying to create at home.
What the Hojati Society essentially is, is a group that forbids adherence to any sort of governmental structures. Government is order. They want chaos. They want to bring about the second coming because of chaos, not order.
BECK: So why is this ayatollah -- geez, we`ve only got 30 seconds. We`ve got to have you back. Why is this ayatollah, is he afraid of Tom? How did Tom get in?
BERMAN: Well, this is a good question, because Ahmadinejad rose to power. It was quite clear he rose to power initially with the blessing of the supreme leader, Ayatollah Khameini.
But what`s also clear is that, over the last 12 months or so, Ahmadinejad has expanded his power, consolidated his power. The ayatollahs, the clerics are getting a little bit restless and are making moves to try to curb his power. And that is really going to be the decisive battle. The decisive battle is not going to be one externally or fought externally; it`s going to be internally.
BECK: All right. Thank you very much, Ilan. We`ll have you back again.
Just a reminder, Jafer the Pilot being sought by the FBI. This is the guy we told you about earlier. He may or may not have smuggled a nuclear weapon inside the United States. This weekend, look for this -- this face.
By the way, do you really feel like you know President Tom yet? How about another refresher course on him.
(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)
ANNOUNCER: Now, it`s time to play Know Your Dictator!
Under the regime of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, which method of criminal punishment is no longer allowed? "A", flogging; "B", stoning; "c", amputation? The correct answer, they`re all still allowed! Sorry, lawbreakers.
And finally, Iranian men can legally marry women as young as...
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: I don`t know, 16?
ANNOUNCER: Guess again.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Fourteen?
ANNOUNCER: Not even close.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Twelve?
ANNOUNCER: Getting warmer.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Ten?
ANNOUNCER: Almost there.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Nine?
ANNOUNCER: Bingo, or should I say, "la`chaim"?
(END VIDEOTAPE)
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
BECK: We need to speak the truth. We need to speak it calmly, and plainly, and reasoned, and stick to our guns. These are bullies, and they are bullying not only Christians and Jews, but Muslims, as well. And we`ve got to speak the truth to each other, and we must take a firm stand; otherwise, it is a sign of retreat.
Look, you never win a game playing -- playing defense. You only win when you`re playing a game of offense. You don`t believe me? Ask the Philadelphia Eagles about their game this weekend.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
BECK: While we`re here on the topic of sports, Pete Rose is in the studio with me.
Mr. Rose, how are you, sir?
PETE ROSE, FORMER MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL PLAYER: Good. I thought defense won everything. I guess I was wrong all these years.
BECK: Well, don`t -- really, you don`t want to get into sports talk with me. I`m a complete -- we were just talking. You apparently have been briefed on me and told that I was a troublemaker with you.
ROSE: No, no.
BECK: No, no?
ROSE: You`re a good bad boy.
BECK: I`m a good bad boy.
ROSE: Whatever the hell that means.
BECK: I don`t know what the heck that means, either.
ROSE: It means you`ve got your own show.
BECK: May we -- may we speak frankly with each other?
ROSE: Talk whatever you want to talk about. Go ahead.
BECK: Well, here`s the thing: I`m not a sports fan.
ROSE: OK.
BECK: So, you know, what happened in your past never affected me.
ROSE: OK.
BECK: However, I heard the news today about these baseballs that are coming out that you signed -- I don`t even know how many. I heard as many as 300.
ROSE: Not many. Not many.
BECK: OK. So you signed the baseballs, and you put, "I apologize." What does it say exactly?
ROSE: "I`m sorry I bet on baseball."
BECK: OK.
ROSE: Well, first of all, now, let`s all -- let`s all be frank here. And if I hadn`t did what I did, I`d probably be in the Hall of Fame. I`d probably still be managing the Cincinnati Reds.
BECK: You`re a legend.
ROSE: However, I signed some baseballs, "I`m sorry I bet on baseball," for a friend of mine who was going to put them away.
BECK: OK.
ROSE: And somehow, somehow -- I have no idea how 30 of them got out. And they`re -- I guess they`re going to be on auction or something.
So what I decided to do today -- of course, you don`t know this, but I work 15 days a month at Caesar`s Forum Shop at the Field of Dreams Store in Las Vegas, Nevada. And I represent the Mounted Memories and Dreams Incorporated (ph) and Stars Live 365, and I haven`t even signed it yet.
So for my fans who want that kind of ball, when I get back to Vegas on Friday or Thursday, I`m going to start signing, and we`re going to put them up to sell there and, of course, on PeteRose.com.
BECK: OK.
ROSE: Because I had no idea when I signed these balls -- my buddy, who I talked to today, who I signed them for said, "I`m not doing anything with these balls. I`m going to wait 10, 15, 20 years." So somehow 30 of them got out there, and I don`t know how they got out there.
That`s the whole story. It`s kind of amazing that that can knock all these presidents that are in town off the front page of the paper.
BECK: Oh, I know, it`s crazy. So -- so let me just say this to you and get your response on this. Again, I don`t -- I didn`t follow the whole thing, but this is what came to me.
ROSE: OK.
BECK: Fourteen years, you denied anything happened, but then, as a casual observer of this, when you wrote a book, you said, "OK, I did." And to me...
ROSE: That`s not exactly true, though. OK, let me give...
BECK: Help me out.
ROSE: ... give you the time line. As you know, or you may not know, five or six days after I was suspended, Bart Giamatti died, OK? And then Fay Vincent took over as commissioner, and he wasn`t going to give me a second chance, not at all.
BECK: Right.
ROSE: Then all of a sudden he got fired as commissioner of baseball. And it took me -- it took me until the year 2000 to meet with the commissioner of baseball. And I told the commissioner of baseball everything I did the first opportunity I got to talk to him, and that was actually about 13 months before the book come out.
So I did not use the book to announce that I bet on baseball. Do you understand what I`m saying?
BECK: Yes.
ROSE: Because, in my life, Glenn, the only guy that could help me, the guy who`s in charge of my life is the commissioner of baseball. I could have told Bob Costas. I could have told Jim Gray. I could have told Jim Rome. I could have told you. But how is that going to help me?
And the first time and the first opportunity that I got to talk to the commissioner of baseball, that was Bug Selig in Milwaukee. I told him -- and I even thanked him. I said, "Thank you for giving me an opportunity to take this off my shoulders."
BECK: OK. So what was the pivot point in your life? What was the point where you said, "You know what? I did wrong"? Where were you or what did you go through that you went, "I`m a changed man"?
ROSE: Well, when you get suspended from baseball -- I mean, I was in baseball for over 24 years. I managed for four or five. Now all of a sudden I`m on the outside looking in. And it just hit me. I said, "What the hell did I do here? How did I do this?" I mean, I messed up a good thing.
I mean, but, you know, I hurt my family is who I hurt, and I hurt myself. And, of course, I affected some of my fans, but I think -- I think most of my fans, not all of my fans, now understand that I`m sorry I made the mistake.
But, Glenn, it happened in 1987 and 1988. That`s almost 20 years ago. I mean, sure, I can go on for the next 15 years, hopefully and say, "I`m sorry, I`m sorry," and everybody is not going to hear you. There are still people who say, "Well, he`s still not remorseful." I mean, it`s been almost 20 years.
BECK: I have to tell you...
ROSE: I`ve been suspended 17 years.
BECK: I have to tell you, again, to be completely honest with you, I really didn`t think I would like you. And in fact, you were coming on the set, and I said, "No, no, no, not on the set," because I really didn`t think I would like you. And you`re real.
ROSE: Well, you probably say that not knowing much about sports, and a lot of people feel that way about me, because I`m not like I played.
BECK: Yes.
ROSE: You know, I had to be a rough SOB to play the game the way I did, knocking this guy down, knocking this guy down, bowling this guy over, trying to slide to take an extra base.
BECK: One of our writers, Paul Stark (ph), actually believes you killed a man on sliding into base.
ROSE: Well -- but the reality of it is, when I left the ballpark, I was a regular guy. I mean, I love fans.
BECK: Right.
ROSE: And I think -- I`m seeing a lot of payback now because of my gig I have in Las Vegas. I mean, we talk to grandmas, and little kids this big, and dads, and moms, and sisters, and brothers. I mean, it`s amazing the business we do in Las Vegas. And it`s all baseball fans whose may never have a chance to see a Derek Jeter in New York or myself in Cincinnati, because they live in North Dakota or South Dakota or Wyoming and places like that.
BECK: OK. Mr. Rose, thank you very much. Best of luck to you.
ROSE: Thank you. Thanks for having me.
BECK: Thank you. You bet.
(COMMERCIAL BREAK)
BECK: All right. Every day you can hear my radio program on stations all across the country, including 960 WELI in New Haven, Connecticut. And if you can`t find an affiliate in your area, please, sign up and listen online at my web site, at GlennBeck.com.
Now, George Noory is the host of "Coast to Coast AM", which, George, I would be honest with you, is known for some freaky things. But you also break some stories.
You are the guy who broke the Dubai port story. And just a side note, also the author of the new book "Worker in the Light: Unlock Your Five Senses and Liberate Your Limitless Potential".
George, I spent an hour talking about a conversation that you had today on my program with a guy who is in Pakistan and a reporter, who I`m not sure isn`t in league with al Qaeda. Tell everybody about this story.
GEORGE NOORY, HOST, "COAST TO COAST AM": He`s a Pakistani journalist, Glenn. And I`ve the same thoughts many months ago when we were beginning to use Hamid Mir as our source on "Coast to Coast AM".
I thought, you know, is this guy a mouthpiece for al Qaeda? Is he leaking information? Is he telling us what they want us to know?
BECK: Right.
NOORY: And after a while, I had to make a decision that he was not a mouthpiece for them. He`s a good journalist. A couple of my other sources have backed him up. He knows what he`s talking about.
BECK: OK. Buckle up if you haven`t heard this. He just recently spoke to one of the leaders of al Qaeda in Afghanistan. George, give us the scoop on what al Qaeda is warning Muslims here in America about.
NOORY: The leader in Afghanistan, his name is Abu Darwud. He talked to Hamid Mir. Hamid Mir tells us that they are warning Muslims in America to get out of the United States, but specifically get out of Washington, D.C., get out of New York and do so as soon as possible.
One of the big concerns, Glenn, is that they believe that there`s an individual by the name of Agnan al-Shukajuma (ph) who may have some kind of nuclear information or technology that he might have leaked here from Mexico.
BECK: So you`re saying, or actually your source, through al Qaeda, is saying that there is some sort of weapon of mass destruction that has come through the border and is here?
NOORY: He has been saying that for several months now. The individual has been in this country, apparently, for two years. He has known the former terrorists who were part of 9/11. He has been trained in commercial airline flight training, and he is a technician who understands nuclear technology.
BECK: And they just began warning Muslims to get out as soon as possible since when?
NOORY: As of a couple of weeks ago. This seems to be getting more and more prevalent. One of the key barometers here, something to watch, is Hamid Mir is telling him that his sources say that there will be another audiotape from Osama bin Laden within several weeks. So we`re going to have to sit back and find out if that occurs.
BECK: OK. We hope to get this story straight from the horse`s mouth on our radio program tomorrow. You can find all of this information on our web site at GlennBeck.com or an affiliate near you.
George, thank you very much.
New book, "Worker in the Light" in bookstores now, and we will talk to George about that, hopefully, next week.
Good to talk to you, George.
NOORY: Thanks.
(COMMERCIAL BREAK)
BECK: All right. Welcome to "The Real Story." And if you`re a regular watcher of this segment, you know that every night we try to bring you stories or angles on stories that the media just is not covering.
As part of that effort, I want to regularly show you video clips of things that are happening around the world that, for whatever reason, you`re just not seeing here on American television. I chose today`s clip because it features President Tom speaking to his people on August 1st. I want you to listen closely to his words and how different they are from his speech about "brotherhood," "love," and "compassion" last night at the U.N.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
MAHMOUD AHMADINEJAD, PRESIDENT OF IRAN (through translator): When I see the behavior of America, England, and their accomplices in recent days, I get the impression that they are preparing even greater crimes. I warn them: Know that the fire of the wrath of the peoples is about to erupt and overflow. If you do not put an end to your crimes, know that the ocean of the peoples will soon rage.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
BECK: Again, these are the words and promises directly from the mouth of Iran`s leader when he`s not speaking at the U.N. or playing footsy with Brian Williams.
Next tonight, fallout from the pope`s comments is continuing throughout the Muslim world. Today, a story ran in England that quoted the guy who tried to kill the pope back in 1981. He recently wrote a letter to Pope Benedict and said, and I quote, "Your life is in danger. You absolutely must not come to Turkey," end quote.
But the real story is the pope should have cancelled this planned trip to Turkey well before any of this controversy even started. Since May, a new Turkish novel has been racing up the bestseller lists. It`s title? "Attack on the Pope: Who will Kill the Pope in Istanbul?"
A few weeks ago, one of the guests on our program, Walid Shoebat, he is a former PLO terrorist -- I don`t know if you remember him -- he was on this program. After the segment, I didn`t have a chance to talk to him, but he was insistent that one of our producers get an urgent message to me. The message was I needed to know that Turkey, he believes, would play a major role against us in the coming Middle East storm that we`ve all started to pay attention to and we needed to pay attention to Turkey.
Well, I started doing some homework. I started paying attention to Turkey. It turns out that their decision in 2003 to deny the U.S. military`s request to cross the southern border into Iraq was the first chink in the armor between our countries in quite some time. We also didn`t really appreciate that Turkey decided not to contribute any of the troops to the initial allied coalition, even though I kind of understood their reasoning behind it.
Since then, the Turkish people have come out strongly against our foreign policies, and media propaganda has fueled anti-American and Israeli sentiment to historic levels. This is what you need to pay attention to. Just last year, the sales of Hitler`s book "Mein Kampf" sold over 100,000 copies in Turkey. In fact, they ran out of copies. It made last year`s bestseller lists.
Then, earlier this year, the most expensive movie in the history of Turkey was called "The Valley of the Wolves." It was released. It was a hit. In it, American troops massacre civilians at a wedding. They bomb a mosque during prayer and fire into shipping containers full of people.
Oh, and then there`s a scene where an American doctor, played by, not b-list celebrity, but q-list celebrity, Gary Busey, harvests organs from Iraqi prisoners to send -- where else? -- New York, London and Tel Aviv.
Here`s the bottom line: I believe that in Turkey, their people, like so many others in the region, are being bombarded with so much anti- American rhetoric they don`t know what to think anymore. What started as a grand experiment with Middle East democracy and seculartism (sic) is now teetering on the brink of falling victim to the same hate and dark-age thinking that they were built to avoid in the first place.
I think Walid Shoebat was right: Turkey is another piece in the perfect storm puzzle that we`ve been telling you about, and we will start paying a lot more attention to them until we know exactly how they fit in.
Finally, tonight the propaganda spun at the U.N. by President Tom and Hugo Chavez today has forced our attention back onto our formal enemies. And although I believe that something is developing on a historic scope and scale on the world stage, the real story is the next big attack might just happen right here in the U.S., and a lot sooner than anyone is expecting.
A U.S. citizen and known Al Qaeda cell leader who goes by the alias Jafer the Pilot has been missing since 2003. The FBI has offered a $5 million reward for his capture and has said that he is being groomed as the next Mohammed Atta. Keep him in mind as I tie that piece of the puzzle together with some new information that has just come out within the last couple of days.
Hamid Mir, he is a well-respected Pakistani journalist who has met with Osama bin Laden on several occasions. He also is the guy who broke the story about bin Laden`s claim that he has nuclear weapons. He recently traveled to Afghanistan to meet with various Taliban and Al Qaeda leaders.
If true, what they told him is absolutely terrifying. In his first appearance on American television on this subject, Hamid Mir joins us now from Pakistan.
Hamid, you met with Abu Dawood, and he issued a warning to American Muslims. What exactly did he say?
HAMID MIR, JOURNALIST: Yes. Actually, he called me from Kabul to Drezny (ph), which is in the south of Afghanistan, for a warning. He also called me for giving a warning because they were watching me on TV that I was embedded with the British troops in the southern part of Afghanistan. They were conducting operations against Taliban and Al Qaeda.
So he called me in Drezny (ph), and he told me very clearly that you should not be embedded with our enemies and you should leave Afghanistan immediately. And during that conversation, I started asking these different questions to him. And I asked him about Osama bin Laden, and he said that he`s still in contact with his fighters, and he is still determined to attack America, and he is still...
BECK: But he told you that -- I`m sorry to interrupt. We have such a time delay here. He has told you that he has prepared the next attack, it is ready to happen, and that Muslims should leave the United States immediately, did he not?
MIR: Yes. Abu Dawood told me that we are determined to attack America again and that attack would be bigger than 9/11. And he said that the Americans must face the same kind of attacks which they are imposing us in Iraq and Afghanistan.
And he said that the Muslims must leave America, because the Muslims in America like a shield for the American military might. And I asked him that, if American Muslims are not ready to leave America, then you will not attack America? He said, no, if the Muslims are not ready to leave America, even then we will attack, because the Americans are attacking us in our homes, so we have the right to retaliate in that same manner.
BECK: Now, you...
MIR: He also mentioned the name of -- yes, he also mentioned the name of Adnan, and he said that Brother Adnan is responsible for organizing an attack bigger than 9/11. And he said that the brother, Adnan, even has smuggled some dangerous material from Mexican border to inside the United States of America.
So it was difficult for me to understand who is Adnan. And then he also told me his other name, which is his jihadi name, Jaffar al Tayyar. So that`s how I came to know that it is Adnan el Shukrijumah, who is in American citizen.
And he said that Adnan came to Afghanistan in early 2004, and he got fresh instructions from Al Qaeda leadership in Houst (ph), which is in the eastern part of Afghanistan. And he said that he went back to America, and he will implement his plan anytime. And he also said that Osama bin Laden have completed his cycle of warnings.
He had issued warning to Americans three times that we will attack America again. So he said that the cycle of warnings have been completed, and we can attack America anytime. So that`s what Abu Dawood told me in...
BECK: I`m sorry to interrupt. You and I had quite a long conversation and a fascinating conversation that, if you want to listen to, you can hear it online at glennbeck.com. But we went into a lot of different things.
But one of the things that you talked to me about was this cycle of warnings. And you said that, when you broke the story originally, that Osama bin Laden told you that he did have nuclear weapons, the reason why they haven`t been used yet is because he has been trying to get permission so it all falls in the laws of Islam. We have less than a minute. Can you respond to that?
MIR: Yes. You see, I am a frequent visitor of Afghanistan for my professional work. I was going to Afghanistan before 9/11 and after 9/11. And I must tell you that, when I interviewed Osama bin Laden the first time in 1997, in the first interview he said that, "I will attack America." And I was not ready to believe him.
Then in 1998, I interviewed Osama bin Laden again. And he repeated, "I will attack America." I was not ready to believe him. But on 9/11, he proved that he attacked America. So on November 8, 2001, after a few weeks of 9/11, I interviewed him again. And -- yes?
BECK: I`m sorry, go ahead. We`re out of time now. Hamid, I appreciate it. If you would like to hear all of this, you can hear it again on the Web site. Hamid, thank you so much. We will check in with you and follow you again.
If you would like to read more about what Hamid learned about this possible attack or if you have found a real story of your own you`d like to tell us about, please visit glennbeck.com and click on "The Real Story" button. I`m sorry. We`re out of time.

BECK: It`s very possible that they`re putting mind-control devices in iPods. Once you buy one, you`re hooked for life. You don`t know why; you just are. I love my little iPod. Why do you think Apple makes it impossible to tinker around with the inner depths of the computer? Because they know you will find the mind-control chips inside. If my mind is going to be controlled, I want it to be by some super villain or evil businessman with ties to the Bush administration, not by some 22-year-old who wears a knit hat even in the summer.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
BECK: Yes, so, the Apple people controlling your mind, you`re not with me on -- you`re not with me on that one? Well, listen, there is something to be said about the power of thought. I mean, imagine being able to predict the future. You`d know what`s going to happen in the Middle East. Would there ever be a cure for cancer? And, most importantly, who`s going to win "Dancing with the Stars"?
Earlier this week, I sat down with the Amazing Kreskin.
(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)
BECK: What is the difference between a psychic and a mind reader, a thought reader?
THE AMAZING KRESKIN, MENTALIST, THOUGHT-READER: A psychic supposedly has supernatural powers, what have you. My ability cannot function, Glenn, unless you concentrate.
BECK: Let me ask you about some of the predictions that you have. Well, first of all, talk to me about ICOPS, because this is something really cool that you`re doing.
KRESKIN: It`s an international cops observational preparedness seminar, which is a title you don`t even want to know about. You know what? I`ve been involved in 84 crime cases in my life. And I`ve never talked about them publicly.
But it`s a tough thing to be in law enforcement today because, first of all -- and forgive me -- a police officer today has the media on top of his head when a story breaks. He can`t keep things private. He has a phenomena called lawyers. I`m not against lawyers, but I wish a lot of them had been on the Titanic.
He has all kinds of pressures, and it`s a very difficult thing to sit through what`s going on. I`m going to train, just to wrap it up -- I can`t teach policemen to read thoughts, but I can train them to use their intuitive abilities.
We all have them. And some of the real entrepreneurs in life, Glenn, all found out how to stop the world and get off. And you know how important that is? Because we don`t know how to do it anymore. We got kids going golfing at 5 years old, being trained to golf. And you give them a golf club and let them use their imagination by themselves. So I`m excited about this.
BECK: You know, the only time I`ve ever gone wrong in my career, my relationships any time, is when I overthink it. Your gut just tells you.
KRESKIN: Just very quickly, JFK, when he was in the White House, after he heard all the statistics, all the advice of the different, the military, what have you, he closed the door and bring out junk magazine pulps. It got his mind off of things.
Edison would -- who lived like 12 minutes where I was born -- lay on a desk and would take naps on the work desk. And Einstein in Princeton would take a rowboat, go in the middle of the lake, and just pull the oars in and drift.
I jog from 4:00 to 5:00. I`m not home. I`m only home four days a month, but I jog every night, and that`s the way I can think. Not with earphones on, because it`s too busy. We need to hear silence. And, by the way, people often talk to each other when they`re not speaking.
BECK: I just told my producer today that I`m going to do a segment on the radio here in the next few days where I`m going to tell my listeners to turn off the radio.
KRESKIN: Wow.
BECK: I want them to -- I`m going to explain something, and then turn the radio off, and be in silence. There`s not silence in our lives anymore.
(CROSSTALK)
KRESKIN: We`re afraid of silence.
BECK: We are afraid of it. And we need it to be able to digest it.
KRESKIN: Years ago, there was a man in broadcasting -- and I know you folks will consider me, you know, of an aged period, because it was in the `40s and `50s -- the most legendary, most powerful figure in the history of broadcasting bar (INAUDIBLE) name was Arthur Godfrey. Indeed, before Eisenhower ran for office, he got Godfrey`s permission.
Had this country fallen in the `50s, it had been decided that Mr. Godfrey would take over the nation, not because of power, but because of trust. And he talked on the air and sometimes would pause. My god, today you`d have a sponsor saying, "Am I paying for those eight minutes of quiet?
Because we need to absorb what is going on. And when we`re with friends, imagine you`re in front of a fireplace and you`re just sitting there. And once in a while, listen to the crackle of the fire, the way you do when you`re camping with your kids, and talk about the scenery. It`s a wonderful experience.
BECK: Let me ask you this, because I -- the last few weekends, just alarm bells have been ringing off in my head. This, we are up against quite possibly biblically proportion kind of stuff.
KRESKIN: Yes. Well, the way I explain -- I do a tremendous amount of university shows, and they`re entertainment, 2 1/2-hour programs, but I did a question and answer period. And I point out, the problem, to wrap it up, with this wonderful world we`re here is we play poker.
Poker is a game where -- and I`m banned from any casino in the world from playing poker (INAUDIBLE) but poker`s a game where you deal the cards out, you bid, as you all know. At the end of it, you take your money, and you throw the hand in.
Many parts of the world, Glenn, play chess. And chess is 38 moves from now. If I were to really say what I feel that this could take, the war could take 30 years, I hope people looking in are not going to get tremendously upset, because people forget the sacrifice when World War II hit. There were thousands of young men in line the next day who sacrificed four years of their life. Nobody even questioned it.
We can`t complain. We are resourceful, but we`ve got to face the fact that the longest wars in history are religious wars, all through history. I know I haven`t -- I`ve gone into -- but I love my work. And I find history -- I think the genius of the last century was Winston Churchill. What wisdom. We need a Chamberlain today...
BECK: No, we need a Churchill.
KRESKIN: No, I`m saying it sarcastically. We could debunk him and find out, "Where was your head?"
BECK: Thank you. Appreciate it, sir.
KRESKIN: Take care of yourself.
BECK: All right.
(END VIDEOTAPE)

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)
BECK: All right. Let`s get to the e-mail today, with Vance in Miami. He says, "Glenn, I saw how Tiger Woods` wife is being abused in the European papers, showing what are supposed to be topless photos of her. How can they show that stuff without including the Web address?"
Good point. And as you probably know, those aren`t real pictures of Tiger Woods` wife. Damn! Here`s a real shot of the two of them, but apparently Tiger is reportedly pretty upset about the fake ones. Next to the photos, the Irish paper claimed, quote, "Most American golfers are married to women who cannot keep their clothes on in public." Really? I would think that would make golf even more popular.
Now, if you`re going to trash an athlete -- I mean, you know, hey, I`m not a journalist; I am a thinker, however -- I guess golfers would make a good target. You know, you`re not going after a linebacker, but would you pick Tiger, really? I mean, he could follow up with a big, fat lawsuit. Remember, he does have a family to feed, and I don`t think he can afford to buy the entire continent of South America yet, at least not with cash.
So you might ask yourself, why are we doing a story on the Ryder Cup? Well, while it might be just an international golf tournament, I actually believe that it will get more accomplished in the world than anything going on at U.N. right now.
Jacquelyn writes in, "How dare you interview a sports legend like Pete Rose and not know a thing about baseball or Pete Rose`s legendary history. Have you counted how many times you said the phrase, `I don`t know`?"
Well, I don`t know. No, I don`t think so. I did talk about my lack of sports knowledge, and Pete seemed pretty aware of it. So, Jacquelyn, I`ll let you count.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
BECK: Don`t want to get into a sports talk with me. Not a sports fan.
PETE ROSE, FORMER MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL PLAYER: OK, but you don`t know this...
BECK: Again, I didn`t follow the whole thing. But then, as a casual observer of this...
ROSE: As you know, or you may not know -- you understand what I`m saying? Well, you probably say that not knowing much about sports.
BECK: Thank you.
ROSE: Thank you. Thanks for having me.
BECK: You bet.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
BECK: Oh, jeez. I didn`t even notice that -- I end an interview with Pete Rose with "You bet"? Sometimes I`m not the brightest person on television. This interview has been played over and over all over the place since it aired yesterday. It was even on the front page of Yahoo. I`m on Yahoo today, and I`m like, "Oh, jeez, of all the stuff I know something about, the interview that gets all the exposure is about sports?"
I apologize, America, for being an embarrassment to sports fans worldwide.
We have more of what we did with Pete Rose on my podcast coming up on Monday. And always you can get it free at iTunes or CNN.com/Glenn.
