Glenn Beck
Denouncing Liberal Smear Campaigns; The NAFTA Super Highway Will Be America`s Road to Ruin
Aired October 02, 2007 - 19:00 ET
THIS IS A RUSH TRANSCRIPT. THIS COPY MAY NOT BE IN ITS FINAL FORM AND MAY BE UPDATED.
GLENN BECK, CNN ANCHOR, GLENN BECK: Tonight, Rush Limbaugh in the crosshairs. Liberals piling on after Rush`s phony soldier comments.
SEN. HARRY REID, MAJORITY LEADER: Rush Limbaugh went way over the line. His unpatriotic comments I cannot ignore.
BECK: I`ll tell you how groups are hijacking the truth for political gain.
Plus, I`ll have the latest on the secret plan to build a NAFTA super highway. I`m sorry -- a super corridor. Yes, trucks heading from Mexico to Canada may soon be coming to a neighborhood near you.
And unfortunately, a little Britney Spears news. Judge ordered Britney Spears to turn her kids over to a more fit parent, which I guess, is this guy? All this, and more tonight.
Well, hello, America. You know how when you go into a courtroom may make you swear an oath to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth? I believe the most important word in that oath is "whole". If you say something that`s only part of the truth, but not the whole truth, it`s really not any better than a lie, is it? Rush Limbaugh is finding that out as liberal hit squad Media Matters has twisted his words to make it seem like he called all soldiers who might disagree with him phony soldiers.
The whole truth of his statement is that he was specifically referring to one soldier and a group of soldiers called on by the DOJ in the Pacific Northwest. One of them was a convicted fraud who lied about his military service. Of course, Media Matters didn`t have a word to say when Congressman John Murtha accused American Marines of being guilty of murdering innocent Iraqi civilians, servicemen who actually turned out to be innocent heroes.
So here`s the point tonight: America, John Murtha is a murderer . of this competition at waffle-eating contests.
See? It`s almost like context matters. And here`s how I got there. If I were a left-wing activist group, I`d just ignore the second part of that sentence, you know what I just said about Murtha. I`d just blast out on e- mail to the mainstream media saying, evil radio and television host Glenn Beck calls Congressman John Murtha a murder! And then I`d hope that they just print it and put it on TV as fact.
And you know what`s really sad about this whole story? A lot would. That`s the game of gotcha. This is the game that has been brought to perfection by these socialist, ultra-lefts, that have been playing with Rush Limbaugh, and anybody else they disagree with, that they`re trying to destroy. That`s dishonest, it`s unethical, and it`s the only kind of argument that is un-American.
Being taken out of context is nothing new. I mean, people on both sides of the aisle have been doing this for a long time, but it doesn`t make it OK. America, does the truth in context matter?
Here`s the larger issue. The groups that are really guilty of some of the worst word games refuse to be honest about who they are, what their agenda is, who`s paying their bills? Media Matters goes after a conservative like Rush Limbaugh, but they refuse to confess their extreme liberal agenda, or the fact that the majority of their funding comes from billionaire activist George Soros.
A few weeks ago, MoveOn.org took out a full-page ad calling respected General David Petraeus, "General Betray Us". I didn`t see anybody in the Democratic Party running down to say I have to speak out against this. And MoveOn.org hides from the fact that they are a liberal socialist group that gets the majority of their funding from George Soros.
Help me. I`ve just pointed this out. I`m a dead man. Soros is a man with one goal, many puppet organizations and unlimited financial resources. Actually, I had to think about this today. I think somebody should tell George that if the Democrats get in power, they`re going to tax him to death. Hello, George.
So tonight here`s what you need to know, America. Democrats you need to wake up and figure this out. You need to figure out what the Republicans had to learn the hard way recently. Your party has been hijacked by the fringe. It`s not the party of your grandparents or your parents. In this case, it`s been hijacked by the radical left. Do you realize that most of America believes that radical socialists, like Media Matters, and MoveOn.org speak for you? Do you really want Michael Moore speaking for you? Is that who you are?
The Democratic Party used to stand for something. The values and ideals that helped build and sustain this great country, the Republicans did as well. Those days are over. In the Democratic Party, George Soros has bought his way into your party and he is funding smear groups that pretend to be objective. It`s time to call a spade a spade, and a socialist a socialist. The only thing worst than being a socialist is denying that you`re a socialist.
Herb London is the president of the Hudson Institute. Do I have this wrong any place here, Herb?
HERB LONDON, HUDSON INSTITUTE: I think you`ve got it right. I think one of the things we`ve already seen is that extremists have hijacked many of the essential issues of our time.
BECK: I have to tell you, I don`t want to give the Republicans a free pass because I think the Republican Party was hijacked by the Democrats. I think they`re now the Democratic -- they`re spending money like crazy, fighting wars not really to win. But the Democrats haven`t caught on that they have been hijacked by the extreme left. People that your grandparents and your parents would never identify with and I think most people.
Tell me about the connection between George Soros and some of the things we`ve seen in the news lately.
LONDON: You made reference to the fact that George Soros has insinuated himself into both Media Matters, as well as MoveOn. And these organizations have not been repudiated by anyone in the Democratic Party. And the reason is fairly obvious. What we find is that that money looms very large in the calculations for 2008.
BECK: Yeah. You know what? Democrats -- I want to make sure you understand, too. This is not your fault that this happened. This is John McCain`s fault. This is the McCain/Feingold bill that caused this nightmare and injected this kind of money and insanity into this. I want you to tell me the connection here. I want to play a video clip. This is from August 4th. She was speaking in Chicago. This is Hillary Clinton. Watch this clip and explain the connection here.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
SEN. HILLARY CLINTON, (D), PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE: Institutions that I helped to start and support like Media Matters and Center For American Progress. They`re beginning to match what I have said for years, as the advantage of the other side.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
BECK: Is there a connection between Soros and Clinton and Media Matters? Are these Clinton organizations, or?
LONDON: What you can see is that the dots are connected. They`re connected in the following way. The money is going to loom very large in the Hilary Clinton for president campaign, and it also true that what you will find is that the Democratic Party depends very heavily on the ideological position of MoveOn and Media Matters. So there is some connection between these dots.
BECK: So George Soros is the wizard, if we`re talking about "The Wizard of Oz". Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain. Who is this guy?
LONDON: Well, George Soros is a billionaire who I think is largely anti-Bush. Keep in mind that he was actually trained by Carl Popper (ph) and believed in the Open Society. And to some degree I think he`s repudiated his own origins. What he`s saying now is that it`s the left wing, the socialist view of the Democratic Party, that he embraces.
BECK: OK. Any idea how long I have to live, Herb, now that I`ve picked on Soros?
LONDON: I think you`re safe largely because you have a television program.
BECK: OK. Thanks a lot.
Now let`s find out the real truth about the phony soldier Rush Limbaugh was talking about. Pete Hegseth is the executive director of Vets for Freedom.
Pete, it wasn`t just this one soldier. It was a group of soldiers. The DOJ, the Department of Justice, has set up a task force to catch these guys who are masquerading as soldiers. But this one, in particular, that Limbaugh was talking about, that he called a phony soldier -- I think this guy has committed treason. Explain to the American people who this guy is, what he did.
LT. PETE HEGSETH, VETS FOR FREEDOM: Well, Jesse Macbeth claimed to be an Army Ranger. He claimed to have served in Afghanistan. He claimed to have served in Iraq. He actually claimed to have served for up to 16 months in Iraq and to have been wounded there.
He also claimed that his unit, and himself, committed atrocities against the Iraqi people, that they slaughtered over 200 people, killed innocent children during interrogations, and basically was a darling of the anti-war left for a long time until he was exposed.
BECK: This is a guy, who said, that he went into mosques with his group, went into mosques while children were playing, killed them, burned them, and hung them from the rafters.
HEGSETH: Hung them from the rafters to respond --
BECK: Was never even there. And all of this stuff was translated into Arabic.
HEGSETH: Yes.
BECK: Here`s my question for you, Pete. Why did this guy only get five months in jail? Why has he not been tried for treason?
HEGSETH: That`s a good question in many ways, because what he says and what`s translated into Arabic gets beamed throughout the entire Arab world. If you go to Iraq, any Iraq and Afghanistan veteran can tell you that every mud hut has a satellite dish on top of it. The Iraqi people are following what we are saying, especially what soldiers say. He certainly crossed the line. He claimed to have post-traumatic stress disorder. He clearly has other mental issues that he needs to deal with.
BECK: Post traumatic distress -- he flunked out of boot camp for the love of Pete.
HEGSETH: Yeah, he flunked out of boot camp after 40 days.
BECK: Geeze that`s post traumatic for this guy.
You`ve got Murtha saying that the Marines killed a bunch of people. The claim that he made was false. You`ve got MoveOn.org doing the "Betray Us" thing. You`ve got this guy. You`ve got Cindy Sheehan, who is clearly -- I mean, she`s in bed with Chavez. None of these people disavow anything. When Cindy Sheehan was revealed as being out with -- with Hugo Chavez, this guy is -- is put into court and shown a complete fraud. Nobody seems to disavow.
HEGSETH: You know, that`s the unfortunate part. You`ve got a guy like Jesse Macbeth saying things that are clearly out side the lines. But the problem is that his voice is being amplified by people that believe his message re-enforces their own message. And they want to hear it from a soldier that`s talking about the bad things the American military has done and they try to amplify it as far as possible. So, as much as we want to indict Jesse Macbeth, it`s unfortunate. But what the anti-war left does with his rhetoric is an even greater crime.
BECK: Pete, thanks a lot.
HEGSETH: Thank you.
BECK: So, where am I wrong? I think the Democratic Party has been hijacked by smear groups and radical socialists like George Soros. They don`t care about the truth anymore. You agree or disagree? Go to cnn.com/glenn and cast your vote. That will be an interesting one to tally.
Coming up, the administration calls it a myth, and the people who believe in it a conspiracy theorist. Well, as I like to say, if you deny it, well, then, you`re either naive or you`re in on it. I learned that from the progressives, actually.
Then our infrastructure is vulnerable to an attack so debilitating that our country could collapse in a matter of seconds and the terrorists don`t even have to leave home. I`ll explain in tonight`s "Real Story".
And, alas, a California court has decided Britney`s unfit, yeah, as a parent. But they also decided that K-Fed is. We`ll give you full details coming up.
(COMMERCIAL BREAK)
BECK: Coming up, yes, believe it or not, America, yes I found something else to freak out about, our entire infrastructure. You know, little things like our electrical grid and nuclear power plants. Vulnerable to an invisible but very real threat. The government knows all about it. What are they doing to protect us? Oh, yeah. I`ll freak you out again coming up in tonight`s "Real Story".
But first, can you believe all the stories in the newspapers and on TV? You just can`t get away from everybody talking about this NAFTA super highway. Yeah. Nobody is talking about it. It`s a giant roadway that will run across the United States connecting Canada and Mexico.
Why is no one talking about it? Um, because no one will admit to it. It`s only crazy people like me that dare mention it on the air. I`ve told you before, and I`ll tell you again, when it comes to the government, it`s all abut misdirection. They grab your attention. Hey, everybody look over here. That`s when they`re doing the real work in the shadows over here when no one`s looking. But, sorry to break it to Washington, I see you. We see what you`re catering to big business and their pursuit of the almighty buck, and you`re forgetting about we, the people.
The NAFTA super highway will hurt our national security. It will open new avenues for illegal immigration. It`s like giving Mexican drug cartels their own FedEx service. It doesn`t sound like a good idea. We have enough border problems already. We don`t need to open up an express lane making things worse.
One man who`s doing what he can to stop this is somebody I have disagreed with in the past, his name is Congressman Virgil Good. He`s a Republican from Virginia.
Congressman, how are you, sir?
REP. VIRGIL GOODE (R), VIRGINIA: Fine, Glenn. How are you?
BECK: OK. A lot of people because they say to me all the time, Glenn, there`s no such thing as the NAFTA super highway. Oh, yeah. And I bet we didn`t land on the moon.
GOODE: You are exactly right. I heard what you were saying a few minutes ago. If the NAFTA super highway becomes a reality, and they`re already working in Texas on the Trans-Texas Corridor, which is a massive multilane highway that will run from Mexico right on across the Rio Grande and into Texas, and then on up to Oklahoma and into Kansas City. If that becomes a reality, it will be a highway, as you pointed out, for smuggled goods, for illegal aliens, and potentially nuclear, raid logical or biological weapons.
BECK: Here`s the whole idea. What they want to do, they can bring products in from China a lot less expensively into Mexico ports.
GOODE: Correct.
BECK: They bring them into these Mexican ports, they bring them right across our border into this gigantic highway system. It`s my understanding that we already have the first bid out and the bid to build the Trans Texas Corridor Highway didn`t even go to an American company.
GOODE: It`s my understanding the same thing. A foreign company has the bid for the Trans Texas Corridor, at least part of it, to start out with. And as you pointed out, china will ship goods to the West Coast of Mexico, avoid the fees that would be incurred if you landed on -- in the coast on California -- come on across Mexico. They`ll never unload the trucks. The trucks will stay loaded with the containers that they get from China. And they will bring the containers to Kansas City, or to wherever the point of delivery is. And that`s very unsafe. We need the system that we have now where you unload the cargo when it crosses the Rio Grande, and put it on a U.S. truck with a U.S. driver.
BECK: And the northern part of this highway is -- has already been proposed. It`s the Canadian, what is it, Asian-Pacific Trans corridor. And that`s coming in and that will connect to 35. Tell me, Congressman, this is all a giant word game, it seems to me. Everyone will say, no, no, no, this isn`t happening, but they won`t deny the pieces of it. It`s exactly what they did with -- with the -- with the amnesty bill. They couldn`t get it through in one big bill, so they`re breaking up, like the Dream Act, and putting it in piece by piece. Am I wrong?
GOODE: You`re exactly right. It`s just called -- it`s a play on words. I had the opportunity to ask the secretary of Transportation some questions before the Transportation appropriations subcommittee in U.S. House. I believe she used the word NAFTA-related highway and highways that would increase our trade with Mexico and other countries south of our border.
But I define it as a NAFTA super highway. When NAFTA began in the early `90s, it dreamed this is those dreams are back to become a reality.
BECK: Am I overstating it to say that our sovereignty is under attack? It`s being taken from us, in the cover of darkness, by these multinational corporations, in bed with members of our own government. And we`re just not going to wake up to it until it`s too late?
GOODE: Great summary. I would say this. There`s a diverse view on multinational economy. Some believe that is the way to go. You do away with borders. You just have a North American Union, just like they have the European Union. I do not want that. It will be dangerous for our security. It`s harmful for our safety, and it will erode the sovereignty of the United States of America.
BECK: Congressman, thank you very much. Keep up the good fight. All the people involved in this, I think they`d all tell you, no, it`s the way of the future and it will help us.
Coming up, an update to a fairly simple challenge. Write a letter to someone you love. Write a letter. Well, pen hit paper all over the place and the results will warm your heart.
Then, something less warm and fuzzy. Britney Spears, her downward spiral towards -- vomit, I believe. Coming up.
(COMMERCIAL BREAK)
BECK: Jason Wright is one of my favorite authors. His book, "The Christmas Jars", I read a few years ago, quickly becoming a holiday classic. Now his newest work, "The Wednesday Letter", is just as touching. It`s a celebration of the lost art of letter writing. He was on a couple of weeks ago.
When his book first came out and you, for some strange reason, gave out your cell phone number and asked people to tell you about their letter writing experiences. What happened?
JASON WRIGHT, AUTHOR, "THE CHRISTMAS JARS": Well, first of all, still married. My wife forgave me. I had about 700 phone calls over the course of a couple of days, really some amazing people. You have by far the most enthusiastic and rabid fans of anybody on TV. Rabid, not in a foaming at the mouth --
BECK: A lot of them are actually foaming.
WRIGHT: One guy e-mailed me and said after that mandate that Glenn gave us that we buy your book. I was look, I like these mandates. It`s been an amazing experience. I`ve heard from fantastic people. It seems this overarching theme is that every single one of us has some experience with a letter, that`s been extraordinarily meaningful in our lives, whether it`s a letter for good or a letter for not.
BECK: If I`m not mistaken, there was a guy who was watching the program, and his wife just passed away, and he was going through stuff and he happened to find one of her letters. Is that right?
WRIGHT: As he was watching us on the air, he was going through a shoe box of old cards, and father`s day cards, and anniversary cards just to see her handwriting on paper and he told me in an e-mail how that brought her back to life.
BECK: Also, 9/11 -- a connection to 9/11?
WRIGHT: That`s right. The sweetest girl, Kelly Spare (ph), sent me an e-mail about a friend of hers. They wrote every week when they were children and she was watching as her friend was killed on Flight 93, just a couple of hours from where they grew up together. And today she has saved every single one of those letters and cards she got from her friend.
BECK: And what is the -- there was also another one. An alcoholic?
WRIGHT: That`s right. Dawn in Philly, the sweetest woman. We`ve become quick friends by e-mail. They were doing an intervention with her father when she was younger. He was a raging alcoholic. They wrote him a letter explaining their feelings for him and what they thought he needed to do. The disease eventually took his life, but when they found him on the couch, that letter, folded up, in his wallet.
BECK: It`s really -- your book is tremendous. And congratulations, I believe it`s No. 3 on "The New York Times" Best Seller. We have a lot of common. Number three radio show, No. 3 book.
WRIGHT: It`s No. 6, but with any luck we`ll get to No. 3.
BECK: Was it No. 3? And now it`s fallen to six?
WRIGHT: It was six, but it was three on Amazon.
BECK: OK. Well, Amazon. They`ll let anybody up in No. 3.
WRIGHT: Three on "The New York Times," though, sounds pretty good.
BECK: It`s such a tender story. It goes back -- I talked to you about this before. It`s -- it`s Bridges of Madison County without the icky stuff. You know what I mean? I`m so still grossed out by a naked Clint Eastwood in that whole thing. It`s such a great story and you`re such a great writer. You`re working on a new one now?
WRIGHT: I am. I`m working on a --
BECK: You book slut!
WRIGHT: Oh, come on.
BECK: Seriously.
WRIGHT: When do you sleep? Radio, TV, magazines, websites.
BECK: Right.
WRIGHT: No, I`m working on a new book, it will be out next fall, it`s called "The Last Campaign". I`m actually looking -- I have a couple of key characters that have yet to be named. I`m hopeful your listeners and viewers will help me out with that.
BECK: Tomorrow it is in the e-mail newsletter, is that right?
WRIGHT: That`s correct.
BECK: You`ll find all about it. If you want to have your name in the next novel, you can go to Glennbeck.com and sign up for it.
Jason, always a pleasure, sir. Congratulations.
WRIGHT: I appreciate it. Thank you.
BECK: Great book. Please, pick it up.
The invisible threat that could immobilize our country is the "Real Story" and it`s coming up.
Also you don`t want to miss the stuff about Britney Spears. Trust me, it`s worth the wait.
(COMMERCIAL BREAK)
BECK: Well, in just a bit, a story that will give you the dry heaves, Britney Spears. I mean, losing her kids to a gem of a guy like Kevin Federline. Yes, will it be the wake-up call? No. I`ll give you my theory coming up in just a second.
But first, welcome to the "Real Story." If you live in a place like New York City, like I do, you probably already know that, when somebody is screaming, "NBC," they`re not really talking about the television network. They`re talking about nuclear, biological and chemical attacks. But while those threats get most of the media attention and government funding, there`s another threat that is brewing that`s far more serious. And leave it to me to find it.
The "Real Story" is, cyberterrorism is real, it`s here, and it`s much more likely to affect you and your family than virtually any other major threat we face. A couple of weeks ago, I told you how a hacker was able to remotely take full control of a U.S. nuclear power plant. Do you remember? Just a couple of commands on the keyboard, he was able to shut off power to thousands of people.
Fortunately for us, the hacker was hired by the power company to test their security, and hopefully they got an "F," but, you know, because of today`s PC world, they probably just got a "Try harder next time, power company." Anyway, instead of just telling you what could happen of a hacker takes over a power plant, today I want to show it to you.
What you`re about to see is -- what you`re seeing here is an industrial turbine. It`s just like one, you know, that our power plants use for electrical grids all across the country. It`s been taken over by a computer hacker. There you see, the turbine spins out of control, starts to smoke, and then it shuts absolutely everything down, taking whatever electrical grid it was powering right along with it.
Fortunately, once again, this was just a test, but it`s another example of how ancient software being used for our power and our utilities was never created with the Internet in mind. You know, it`s kind of like watching a high-definition football game on your 1962 television set. It really wasn`t made to see each other and have each other work hand in hand. So how easy is it to hack into our critical infrastructure? Listen to this professional hacker.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: If I woke up tomorrow morning and decided I wanted to do that against a generator, I could, and it would not be that hard.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
BECK: OK. Fortunately, this guy works for us, the good guys. But for every one of him, there are teenagers in their parents` basement or in the Ukraine or in China that would love nothing more than to take out a major U.S. utility. Hackers call the next big attack the cyber Pearl Harbor. Hopefully this time the sleeping giant is going to wake up, you know, in time to stop it, but somehow or another I doubt it.
Joe Weiss is a security expert who testified before Congress about cyber threats. Tell me about Pearl Harbor. What does this mean, a cyber Pearl Harbor? How many people are affected? How long does it take us to get our sea legs?
JOE WEISS, SECURITY EXPERT: Well, let me first say thank you, Glenn, for having me on.
BECK: Sure.
WEISS: And the next is, the cyber Pearl Harbor is ostensibly going to be the event where, via cyber vulnerabilities, you`re able to essentially bring the entire infrastructure down.
BECK: OK, for how long? I mean, is this a, you know, one of those things -- like, we`ve had blackouts here in New York City, and it just goes out, and it comes back up. I talked to people who work on Wall Street, and they`ll tell you all the time, "Oh, gee, we`ve got so many redundancies. We`re four times redundancies. We`re set. Not a problem." How long is it down?
WEISS: I`ve had this question asked to me many, many times. The real answer is we don`t know, because it depends what somebody would want to do.
BECK: Well, OK. But we`re talking here -- I mean, I don`t want to get into Y2K territory, where you`re all freaked out, and then Y2K comes, and you`re like, "Oh, great." Give me some realistic idea of how many people would be affected and how long it would last.
WEISS: Well, what you saw with the demonstration was the idea that you could actually damage real equipment. The problem is, when you damage real equipment, this is something that was different than what occurred in the Northeast outage. The Northeast outage didn`t damage any equipment. We were able to come back very, very quickly. So the Northeast outage, as big and as bad as that was, was two or three days.
BECK: OK. So you`re looking at knocking out everything from Boston to Washington possibly?
WEISS: It could be as wide as you want it to be.
BECK: OK. And how long would it take you to -- give me some idea. How long would it take you to replace the equipment, if it was a bad hit?
WEISS: Well, what you have to understand, most of this equipment takes month and months and months to manufacture. A lot of this equipment isn`t even made in the United States anymore.
BECK: Perfect.
WEISS: And not only that, this is very, very big, large equipment that may or may not be able to be transported over our existing roadways, you know, under bridges, over bridges, et cetera.
BECK: OK. So you`re talking about a possibility of months without power, without what?
WEISS: Well, you`re talking about -- depending on what facility or facilities are hit, you`re talking about an extremely long time to replace that equipment.
BECK: OK, Joe, thank you very much. And I know you`re going off back to Washington to testify some more on this very subject. And I appreciate it.
Now, one of the most frustrating things for me is trying to explain how these issues that we talk about every night, how they are related. You know, you hear about this one. You`re like, oh, well. And then you hear about that one. Almost every story and every incident is connected. Do you remember this comment that came from President Bush last year? It resonated with me, and I want to show it to you again.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
GEORGE W. BUSH, PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES: You see, these kind of isolated incidents, these aren`t isolated incidents. They`re tied together. There is a global war going on.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
BECK: OK, and this is where the media gets it wrong every time. They shine a spotlight, like I just did, on the cyberterrorism. Every issue we talk about, we need to stop doing the little flashlight over here and start shining a floodlight on all of these problems. The cyber terror story I just told you is not isolated from a story about, let`s say, the price of oil. The price of oil is connected to the credit crisis and to the housing market and to the war in Iraq. It is all interdependent; all of it is directly connected to our own security.
For quite some time, I`ve been asking, why don`t we take -- why is it we`ll take credit for collapsing the economy of the Soviet Union with Ronald Reagan, yet we don`t think it could possibly happen to any of us? The answer is arrogance, and we can`t let that arrogance become our destiny.
Let me remind you of what Osama bin Laden`s words were. He said, quote, "We bled Russian for 10 years until it went bankrupt. So we are continuing this policy in bleeding America to the point of bankruptcy."
I`ve told you this before, but the "Real Story" is that overspending, the price of oil, and war is what drove the Soviet Union into bankruptcy, and there`s no reason to think that we are immune from that same fate. If you don`t think our enemies understand that and have designed this, I want you to watch this clip. You`re not going to see this any place else. This comes from Hezbollah TV in Lebanon. Just a few days ago, a researcher/convicted terrorist clearly spells out this strategy for taking us down. Watch.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: I say straightforwardly that the U.S. is enemy of the Arabs, the Muslims, and all of humanity. This empire must die. The strategy that serves our interests is to get the U.S. embroiled in endless wars, which it cannot win. Wasn`t it their interest to get the USSR mixed up in a war it could not win, in order to get rid of it? Weren`t they right to do so? We would read about this and say: "They are smart. They have research institutes and intelligence agencies." What are we, donkeys? It is in our interests for the U.S. to get mixed up in every possible crisis and fail.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
BECK: I think the host said it all. "Hmm." Our enemies understand that if we are struggling at home, there`s no way we can win abroad. But here`s the good news: No one is hiding this plan from us. It`s right there. It`s in front of our eyes every single night, if we would just stop refusing to open our eyes. That`s the "Real Story" tonight.
If you`d like to see the full video of what this Hezbollah terrorist is really planning for America, do yourself a favor. Sign up for our free newsletter, absolutely free, glennbeck.com. Doesn`t cost you a thing, and you`ll see the whole interview with this guy in tomorrow`s issue. But you`ve got to sign up tonight to be able to do it at glennbeck.com. You`ll get it tomorrow.
Up next, Britney losing custody of her children. I`ll tell you how it`s directly connected to the terrorist plan for the collapse of our economy. Oh, yes, oh, yes. Stick around.
(COMMERCIAL BREAK)
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
BECK: I`m man enough to say, you know what, I don`t think the Republican Party has fixed itself. I see the continued alcoholic behavior. Well, OK, we were wrong on a couple of things, but, no. No, you sold out all of your values. That`s what you did. And then when we threw you out, you still didn`t have a "come to Jesus" moment. Until I see an epiphany moment from you where you`re like, "Holy cow, (INAUDIBLE) we sold out our values," sorry, homey don`t play that game.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
BECK: I learned that growing up in da hood.
To put it mildly, things aren`t going well for Britney Spears. Divorce number two, her comeback MTV Music Video Award thing, kind of a flabby flop. And as of yesterday, ordered to give up her physical custody of her children, 2-year-old Sean Preston and 1-year-old Jayden James. And I cried like a 4-year-old girl. I did. I did. I`m broken up about it.
I would like to wish and offer my congratulations to Britney for officially becoming a fat divorcee who is hooked on drugs and alcohol and had the government take her kids away. You`ve officially won the White Trash Trifecta. And I believe someone will be at your door with a case of beer soon in cans.
Perhaps the most shocking upset since O.J. got away with murder, the courts decided that K-Fed is a good enough parent, which says to me that justice isn`t just blind, it also has a sense of humor. Sadly, it didn`t have to go this way. The judge overseeing the custody compelled Britney, "Sign up for parenting classes. Here`s an idea: Don`t get drunk all the time. Go to counseling. Submit to random drug tests." Britney decided, "Not so much."
Sadder still is that, after the hearing, she lost custody of the kids, "People" magazine says she was out shopping, tanning, and taking her driver`s test. But, hey, who I am to say? We all have our own ways to cope, you know?
Now more with this national tragedy is Lisa Bloom, Court TV anchor and commentator. Julia Allison, she is the editor-at-large for "Star" magazine.
Julia, let me start with you. She turned her kids in yesterday. She didn`t have to until today. I don`t think she could get rid of them fast enough.
JULIA ALLISON, "STAR" MAGAZINE: Yeah, she turned them in early.
BECK: It`s like, "Take them."
ALLISON: Yeah, you take them. Exactly. You know, a "New York Post" columnist described her as being unfit to raise grass, let alone two kids. No, there are some kinds of grass you don`t even to -- you don`t have to water it.
BECK: No, no, no. I think she`s good at raising grass, because she`ll vomit on it and pee on it once in a while.
ALLISON: Oh, Glenn, Glenn. Listen, I mean, you know, how hard is this, right? The judge says very specifically: You have to get parenting classes. You have to take a drug test twice a week. And guess what? You have to see a substance abuse counselor. She didn`t do any of those things. So I think it`s really clear. You know what? At some level, Britney didn`t want those kids.
BECK: Yeah, you know, I think she blames the kids.
Lisa, let me go to you. This is unusual, isn`t it, to take away the kids? I mean, there was no jury or anything. It was just a judge.
LISA BLOOM, COURT TV ANCHOR: That`s right.
BECK: I mean, she did everything. I mean, the judge might have been grass, because she did everything but pee on the judge.
BLOOM: OK, first of all, she is not fat.
BECK: No, no, no. Let me just say this. Lisa, I agree with you. Most women, she is in unbelievable shape.
BLOOM: Thank you.
BECK: However, if you are Britney Spears who has been always chiseled, you don`t go out with a half-shirt and jiggle around.
BLOOM: She just had two kids, for crying out loud.
BECK: No. And she had about 1,600 beers.
(CROSSTALK)
BLOOM: Putting that aside, because I think that`s just mean- spirited...
BECK: It`s not mean-spirited. It`s honest.
BLOOM: ... it is very rare. It`s extremely rare for a mother of a 1- year-old and a 2-year-old to lose custody of her kids. I mean, we want mothers and little kids to be together, even if the mother is a flawed human being.
BECK: No, we don`t. No, we don`t.
BLOOM: It`s unusual, but she violated the first rule of litigation. You can break the law. The judge might give you a pass. You cannot violate the judge`s order.
BECK: Lisa, are you telling me -- come on. Julia, help me out here. Are you telling me, Lisa, that you really think she wanted these kids? Look at the way she has treated this from the get-go.
BLOOM: You want a serious answer to that? I think she`s a drug addict and an alcoholic and she`s so off course she doesn`t know what she wants. I think she`s a sweet person. I think she loves her kids, but she`s so messed up she can`t get her life together.
ALLISON: That`s absolutely correct. I absolutely agree with Lisa. She clearly doesn`t know what`s going on. She has no ability to cope and even less ability to parent.
BECK: When did she become this drug addict? She seemed to be fine while her career was going...
(CROSSTALK)
BLOOM: Around the time of her divorce. Look, I mean, K-Fed might not be your choice of a spouse, Glenn, but it was her choice.
BECK: I don`t know. He is pretty hunky.
BLOOM: And guess what? She`s a human being. Maybe she actually had a broken heart.
(CROSSTALK)
ALLISON: And maybe you`ll back me up on this, I`m guessing it`s post- partum depression that has spiraled out of control. And she`s trying to -- that`s why you see her binge eating all the time, and that`s why you see her trying to make herself feel better through any means possible, be it, you know, junk food or drugs or alcohol.
BECK: Guys, you know what? I mean, let me just break out the frickin` violin here. I mean, jeez, for the love of Pete. I`m a recovering alcoholic, and I don`t know if you`ve seen me recently, Lisa.
BLOOM: You look good.
BECK: I`m a fatty fat fatso. I could put a Twinkie down.
BLOOM: Not from where I sit, Glenn.
BECK: Yeah, come a little closer to the set.
ALLISON: You know what? The first thing she needs to do is realize that she needs to get help, and she`s never made that realization. She doesn`t think anything is wrong.
BECK: Here`s the thing the people always seem to miss with alcoholics. You can`t make them do anything.
BLOOM: That`s right.
BECK: They`ve got to hit bottom. And you know what? If you lose your kids -- you know what my bottom was? My bottom was sitting down -- that`s a loaded question, especially with the fat thing.
BLOOM: This story is getting more interesting all the time.
BECK: My rock bottom was coming down for breakfast one Saturday morning, and my two girls who were very young came down to the breakfast table and they said, "Dad, tell us a story about Inky, Blinky, and Stinky." It was a story I used to make up and tell them every night about three little mice that would go on adventures to the Island of Cheese.
I couldn`t remember, not only the story, I couldn`t even remember putting them down. And I realized I had a blackout. My children`s childhood was slipping through my fingers; it was all going to be gone. That was my bottom. Now, when you lose your kids, and you call -- after the judge says that, you call your ex and say, "Hey, guess what? I don`t care. I`m going out boozing some more," you`ve got issues.
BLOOM: But you know what, Glenn? Custody orders are never permanent. She always has the chance to get those kids back. She`s 25 years old. If she wants to apply herself, don`t do anything wrong, don`t jaywalk, go to drug counseling, stop drinking. She could get the kids back.
BECK: But she`s in Hollywood. And there`s no -- these people -- I mean, everybody says...
(CROSSTALK)
BECK: I`m not saying he`s any better. Everybody keeps wanting us to feel bad for these Hollywood people, and I`m going to vomit. I am so sick of these Hollywood people. They`ve got fame, they`ve got fortune, they have good looks, they have everything going for them. Stop whining about it.
BLOOM: Well, at least she has a job; that`s more than K-Fed can say.
ALLISON: Well, you know what? As long as she gets a valid driver`s license, I think that`s a pretty good start.
BECK: Oh, yeah, that`s exactly -- hey, let`s get the person who`s all drugged up and with alcohol, let`s get them behind the wheel legally. Lisa, Julia, thank you very much.
Up next, the media has dubbed the Clinton cackle. What exactly does Hillary find so funny these days? We have the answer, next.
(COMMERCIAL BREAK)
BECK: Hillary has been getting a lot of attention in the news lately, but not for her health care plan or for the $5,000 she just wants to magically give every newborn baby in the country, which we, of course, can afford, or for the $27 million her campaign has raised in the last quarter. No, America is finally starting to pay attention to the real issues that matter to the future of our country, namely Hillary Clinton`s laugh.
I`ve never noticed it, but critics have. They`ve called it -- and I`m quoting -- "less of a laugh and more of a cackle." Some have been even a little more cruel as to compare her laugh to the Wicked Witch of the West, which is just a little unfair. Here is the actual Wicked Witch of the Wizard of Oz.

MARGARET HAMILTON, ACTRESS: I`ll get you, my pretty, and your little dog, too!
(LAUGHTER)
(END VIDEO CLIP)
BECK: OK. And here`s the wick -- the junior senator from New York. OK, maybe I was wrong.
Nevertheless, I`d like to come to Hillary`s defense here. I know at times, many times I`ve been less than kind to her, but her laugh isn`t something she should be ashamed of. I think it`s actually one of her best qualities. It makes her seem almost, oh, I don`t know, human.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
WOLF BLITZER, CNN ANCHOR: Let her tell us, if you were president, Senator Clinton, what would your husband do?
(LAUGHTER)
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: We remember those ads from during your...
MIKE GRAVEL, PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE: You`re not going to get another shot at this, because what happens if this war ensues? We invade, and they`re looking for an excuse to it. And Obama was not even there to vote.
TIM RUSSERT, HOST, "MEET THE PRESS": Senator Clinton, I want to give you a chance to respond.
(LAUGHTER)
BLITZER: I wonder if you want to respond to the former mayor. What would your husband do?
(END VIDEO CLIP)
BECK: And your little dog, too.
