CAROL LIN, CNN ANCHOR: The parents of missing intern Chandra Levy arrived in Washington to meet with their new attorney.
National correspondent Bob Franken covering this story -- Bob, do you know who the attorney is now?
BOB FRANKEN, CNN NATIONAL CORRESPONDENT: I do. His name is Billy Martin. And Billy Martin has gone through life, of course, carrying the same name as the former Major League Baseball player and baseball manager. But he's made quite a name for himself also in the legal profession here in Washington.
Billy Martin, as you see here, represented Marcia Lewis, the mother of Monica Lewinsky, during the 1998 grand jury appearances. Billy Martin, of course, has quite a bit of experience in the matter of interns.
But that is not why -- he said in a conversation with me this morning -- that is not why the Levys have hired him to try and help end the mystery of where is the -- Chandra Levy, the 24-year-old former intern, who has been missing since April 30, who has been implicated in a relationship with Congressman Gary Condit, a relationship -- a romantic relationship that Congressman Condit has repeatedly denied through his spokesman.
Now, Billy Martin, in our conversation, pointed out that in a previous life, he had worked with U.S. attorney's office here and had headed the homicide unit and is being brought in because of his investigative expertise.
"There is an answer to this mystery," he says. "And we are hopeful that we can help the Levys find their daughter or at least the answers to what happened." They wanted someone," he went on, "to investigate who understands these matters and can hopefully get these answers."
Now, Martin is somebody who's also known for his discretion. He is out of town. The Levys would not be expected to see him at least until tonight, which calls into question whether the news conference we had been told that would be scheduled today with the Levys will in fact occur. It could very easily wait until tomorrow.
We're also trying to find out when meetings will occur with the Washington, D.C. Metropolitan Police, so there can be a review of what is the status of the investigation right now. And there is no word that any meeting has been set up with Congressman Condit. The congressman has repeatedly said he'd like to meet with the Levys. But so far, no meeting is scheduled -- Carol.
LIN: All right, thanks so much, Bob. Thanks for keeping an eye on that case. And we'll see how those issues develop in Washington.
