ANNOUNCER: A CNN viewer wants to know: How long after leaving the office of the president does one continue to be provided with Secret Service protection?
MARC CONNOLLY, ASSISTANT SPECIAL AGENT IN CHARGE SECRET SERVICE: All current former presidents are authorized to receive Secret Service protection for life. But in 1994, Congress passed legislation which stated that any president elected after January 1, 1997 will receive Secret Service protection for a period of 10 years once they leave office.
