CAROL LIN, CNN ANCHOR: High-level law enforcement sources say the latest tip on missing intern Chandra Levy was a hoax. The anonymous tipster said Levy's body was buried at Fort Lee, Virginia, but the FBI says it investigated and is discounting that tip.
The latest on the Levy case, though, from CNN national correspondent Bob Franken in Washington.
Bob, what have you got?
BOB FRANKEN, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Well, as the investigators regroup, so does Congressman Gary Condit. Of course, he has been at the center of so much of the coverage of this particular story in the three months plus now that Chandra Levy has been missing, because of the romantic relationship, he finally acknowledged when he talked to investigators, according to police sources.
Now, Condit has gone back home to California. He has gone back- says his support staff -- to spend time with his family, to stay out of sight, to try and regroup, rethink, decide what he is going to do next, decide how he is going to talk to his constituents, how he is going to mend fences with his fellow politicians -- both inside and outside Congress -- and to try and determine if, in fact, the police will continue to believe that he is not a central figure in this investigation.
As for the investigation into the disappearance of Chandra Levy, they say the detectives who are assigned to this case say they are increasingly frustrated in spite of the intensive effort that has been made generated in part by all of the publicity. They have not really come up with any clues. Chandra Levy is still missing with no better idea than when they started about her whereabouts -- Carol.
LIN: All right. Thanks very much, Bob Franken reporting live from Washington.
