VINCE CELLINI, CNN ANCHOR: And we have been talking about the heat all morning. We are going to go to one of the hottest spots in the country now - Madison, Connecticut, just outside Hartford, and Kara Sundlun is there. She is from affiliate WFSB. It's getting very warm there already, Kara.
KARA SUNDLUN, REPORTER FOR CNN AFFILIATE WFSB: Good morning, Vince.
CELLINI: Good morning.
SUNDLUN: Yes, it is. In fact, this is about the only place you want to be if you are going to be in Connecticut today. So hot, it's already 80 degrees on the shoreline. It's expected to climb well into the 90s and feel over 100.
We are in the middle of our fourth heat wave since May, and this is the worst one yet - certainly straining the power supplies and also straining the people here. In fact, we've got a beachgoer sitting on the Boardwalk, and I just want to ask you, sir, tell the rest of the country just how hot it is here in Connecticut.
UNIDENTIFIED BEACHGOER: It's so hot that the only relief we really get here on the beach is going into the water, which has been very nice this week.
SUNDLUN: Right. And that's unusual, because usually in New England, it's cold to go in the ocean. We are actually here on the Long Island Sound. Certainly today where there's a lot of warnings to conserve your energy, both inside and out. And we know that about 100 people die of heat every year. So this is also a day for caution. If you are going to be anywhere, you want to head to the beach.
I am Kara Sundlun, reporting live in Madison - let's go back to you.
CELLINI: Kara, before I let you go there, the beach is a lot fun, but even on a hot day like this, I guess as you mentioned, it can be dangerous. It's almost not fun to be on the beach, because of the oppressive heat. Are there some other alternatives?
SUNDLUN: Right. The other idea would be to go into the shopping malls, where there are air conditioners. And I know a lot of the towns here have their senior centers staying open late until about 8:00 in the evening to provide some air conditioning for those who don't have it. Certainly it's a great day to go and knock next door on your elderly neighbor and make sure they are OK. But if you're going to be outside, really the beach is about 10 degrees cooler. It's the only place you want to be.
CELLINI: OK, Kara, thank you very much. Go inside, do some shopping.
SUNDLUN: All right. I'll (INAUDIBLE)...
CELINI: Get out of that heat. OK.
SUNDLUN: Thanks.
