And in just about two hours from now, this plaza in front of the courthouse will be filled with demonstrators -- protesters who are coming out to voice their anger against Officer Joseph Gray. will be arraigned this morning on manslaughter and drunken driving charges in connection with the DWI accident this weekend.
Gray is accused of running down a family when they tried to cross the street. Maria Herrera, who was eight months pregnant, and her four-year-old son were killed, as well as her 16-year-old sister, Dilcia Pena.
Yesterday, funeral services were held for the family at St. Michael's Church in Brooklyn. Hundreds showed up to mourn the family and pay their final respects as they were laid to rest.
The victims' family is outraged over the fact that a judge had decided to release Officer Gray without setting any bail. Today, prosecutors are expected to ask for bail again. And Gray's attorney is expected to enter a plea of not guilty.
