COLLEEN MCEDWARDS, CNN ANCHOR: To get you right to a new development overnight in the hunt for a man police say killed five members of his family, including his pregnant wife.
CNN's Rusty Dornin has the latest now from Sacramento, California -- Rusty.
RUSTY DORNIN, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Well, Colleen, Sacramento sheriff's deputies found the silver Nissan Altima in a parking lot behind a home improvement store in Sacramento. Now, apparently the car was empty, but they did an aerial helicopter search and used dogs. Turned up nothing. They did not find any sign of Nikolay Soltys and apparently in that neighborhood there are several apartment buildings where Ukrainian immigrants also live. So sheriff's deputies do believe there is the possibility that someone there did help him escape or go somewhere else.
They've been watching the bus terminals, of course, and all the railway stations and the airports and have not found any sign of Soltys.
Now, 27-year-old Soltys, apparently he is suspected of stabbing and bludgeoning his wife then driving across town 12 miles and stabbing to death his aunt and uncle and his two young cousins. Now, investigators say that implies intense rage that he would kill his wife and then have targets in mind, drive across town and carry through such a brutal murder.
Now, apparently he did come from the Ukraine about a year ago. He was rejected from the national army in the Ukraine. His family members say he does have a violent temper. He is known for having a violent temper. But he was scheduled to begin college classes here in Sacramento. He has been taking English classes where other people have said he was a very quiet man. Apparently his wife did join him about five months ago, but it was very reluctant.
Now, of course, police are searching for him. He did take his 3- year-old son. There has been no sign of either of them. It is a national manhunt at this point. He is considered armed and dangerous.
