Big Winner of McDonald's Million Dollar Giveaway

CAROL LIN, CNN ANCHOR: Here's our favorite story. A Florida day laborer is the beneficiary of McDonald's' first promotion since the restaurant was victimized by a sweepstakes scandal.

Sally Kidd of affiliate WESH spoke with the stunned winner.

(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

SALLY KIDD, WESH CORRESPONDENT (voice-over): Pat Collier walked into a McDonald's for breakfast and became an instant millionaire.

PATRICK COLLIER: I was shocked. I still don't know how to think of it because I never had a millionaire dollars. I really don't know.

KIDD: Collier is a tree cutter who's been living in a Daytona Beach motel. He says he'll quit his job and buy a home.

COLLIER: We're going to take care of some old bills and reunite the family.

KIDD: McDonald's is giving away $1 million every day for five days. Collier is the second big winner. The fast food chain is hoping to make up for its Monopoly game rip-off. A man responsible for circulating those winning game pieces is accused of stealing the big money prize pieces and selling them to people who in turn gave them to relatives.

UNIDENTIFIED MCDONALD'S EMPLOYEE: This is our way of saying we're going to stand by our golden arches and be true to our customers and let them know that we did take action against what happened and this is our way of saying we're sorry and we've corrected this problem.

KIDD: Collier is on a lucky streak. The day before he became a millionaire, he proposed to his girlfriend and she said yes.
