BILL HEMMER, CNN ANCHOR: The reports we're getting now, on the eastern edge of Kabul there is a military academy there run by the Taliban, also a military post there as well that may be targeted at this time. Also getting word that you might have on that videotape, clearly plumes of smokes extending up into the air and sharp anti- aircraft fire was returned from the ground.
While this happens overseas, we're waiting, in just a few moments, for that moment of silence at ground zero.
CNN's Martin Savage now live from there in Lower Manhattan.
Marty, hello again.
MARTIN SAVAGE, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Hello again, Bill.
As you say, we're awaiting for a memorial service at some time to begin down here near ground zero, and also a very poignant moment of silence that will begin at 8:48 signifying, of course, one month ago, when the first plane slammed into the World Trade Center Tower Number One.
The smoke continues to rise this morning from the World Trade Center site down there. That is perhaps the most striking thing for many, many people; here 30 days after the attack, and there is still an indication of a living, breathing entity down there, although in this case, it is fire.
And that is perhaps the thing that touches people the most as they recollect the tragedy that struck on this day. It is so hard to believe that there are still 4,800-plus people that are unaccounted for; 436 bodies have now been pulled from the rubble on a day that Americans will never forget.
