THIS IS A RUSH TRANSCRIPT. THIS COPY MAY NOT BE IN ITS FINAL FORM AND MAY BE UPDATED. DAVID HAFFENREFFER, CNN FINANCIAL NEWS CORRESPONDENT: Good morning. I'm David Haffenreffer in New York with this morning's top business headlines.
Stock index futures pointing to a mostly flat open for the stock market this morning -- several economic indicators could very well help shape the direction of trading today. Weekly jobless claims are due out at 8:30 a.m. Eastern Time. Economics are expecting first-time filings for unemployment benefits to rise by 7,000.
A report on durable goods for September is also expected. Those are big ticket items meant to last at least three years, and some analysts worry that the terrorist attacks produced a sharp drop in aircraft orders.
Due out as well are the latest figures on the unemployment cost index, a measure of wage inflation, and at 10:00 a.m., September sales for existing homes.
And, of course, we are still in the thick of earnings season. Chevron, Texaco, Dow Chemical and Goodyear Tire are just some of the big companies reporting results this morning.
That is the latest from Wall Street -- now, back to Daryn in Atlanta.
DARYN KAGAN, CNN ANCHOR: David, thank you.
