DARYN KAGAN, CNN ANCHOR: And President Bush thanked government health workers during a tour of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta yesterday. The president says he's looking at all options to deal with a potential attack of the smallpox virus.
And the president is urging Americans to be patient. He says the U.S. military is waging a war to save civilization itself. Mr. Bush's report on the anti terror war came last night in an address to the nation. ABC, it turns out, was the only broadcast network to carry that speech live. You did see it live here on CNN. Skip Loescher has the highlights.

GEORGE W. BUSH, PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES: How should we live in the light of what has happened.
SKIP LOESCHER, CNN CORRESPONDENT: While the president warned Americans they must remain vigilant, he also urged them to get on with work, school and play.
BUSH: A terrorism alert is not a signal to stop your life. It is a call to be vigilant.
LOESCHER: Speaking from Atlanta, Mr. Bush told the nation that all aspects of the effort to stamp out terrorism are on track, but he again warned that the war won't be over any time soon asking that Americans be patient.
BUSH: We have refused to live in a state of panic or a state of denial. There is a difference between being alert and being intimidated and this great nation will never be intimidated.
LOESCHER: Earlier the president toured the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention thanking all those who have worked so hard to save lives during the anthrax episodes. Meantime Attorney General John Ashcroft says the Justice Department will no longer do everything it once did. Instead, Ashcroft says, it will focus on terrorism.
JOHN ASHCROFT, ATTORNEY GENERAL: Defending our nation and defending the citizens of America against terrorist attacks is now our first and overriding priority.
LOESCHER: And a senior White House officials says later Friday the president will announce an expanded role for National Guard troops at the nation's airports.
