LEON HARRIS, CNN ANCHOR: Quite a few rapid developments we have seen in the last 24 hours, developments which have not been anything like a wet blanket on Wall Street there. As a matter of fact, we've seen a couple of days here of some pretty substantial rallies.
Let's check in now and see what's coming up for today or at least what's expected to happen today. David Haffenreffer checking in from New York.
David, what's the word?
DAVID HAFFENREFFER, CNN FINANCIAL NEWS CORRESPONDENT: Well, Leon, nobody's complaining about the past couple of days, anyway. We could very well see some more buying this morning after yesterday's market rally. Investors, of course, embraced news that Taliban military forces were abandoning the Afghan capital of Kabul. Right now, stock index futures, especially for tech shares, are pointing to a solid open today. We'll see if that holds in a few hours time, of course.
Here are some things to watch for today. Before the opening bell, we'll get the latest reading on retail sales for the month of October. Auto sales are expected to be strong thanks to the 0 percent financing deals offered by many carmakers, but retail sales overall are seen registering just a slim gain.
After the closing bell, Hewlett-Packard is reporting its quarterly financial results. That would be one day ahead of schedule. HP is moving up the time to avoid what it says is a conflict with the investment community.
And Fed Chairman Alan Greenspan is set to speak this afternoon at the Economic Outlook Forum sponsored by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.
And that is the latest business news.
