Stock Futures Forecast Flat Opening as Microsoft Xbox Debuts

CATHERINE CALLAWAY, CNN ANCHOR: Let's turn to business news and our David Haffenreffer in New York with the latest -- good morning again, David.

DAVID HAFFENREFFER, CNN FINANCIAL NEWS CORRESPONDENT: Good morning, Catherine.

Well, once again, the stock index futures continue to indicate a flat to maybe higher open for us today on Wall Street. News on the war and economic fronts certainly helping boost stocks recently.

On the economic calendar this morning, weekly jobless claims are due out at 8:30 a.m. Eastern Time. It provides the latest reading on the number of Americans filing for first-time job benefits. It will likely show a modest inventory decline for the month of September.

And Microsoft formally enters the video game war today -- the company's Xbox game consoles hitting stores with many opening in the middle of the night for anxious customers. Xbox goes head to head with Sony's PlayStation II and Nintendo's Game Cube. Retailers are hoping Xbox will help fuel holiday sales.
