ERIC HORNG, CNN CORRESPONDENT (voice-over): Two films, "A Beautiful Mind" and "Moulin Rouge" led the pack with six nominations each. "A Beautiful Mind" will compete with "Lord of the Rings," "The Man Who Wasn't There," "Mulholland Drive" and "In the Bedroom" for best motion picture drama.

The best musical or a comedy category will feature "Shrek," "Bridget Jones's Diary," "Gosford Park," "Legally Blonde" and "Moulin Rouge."

Nicole Kidman's work on "Moulin Rouge" garnered her a nomination for lead actress in a musical or a comedy. She faces competition from "Legally Blonde's" Reese Witherspoon, Renee Zellweger for "Bridget Jones's Diary," Cate Blanchett for "Bandits" and "Ghost World's" Thora Birch.

Kidman also received the nod for best dramatic actress for her role in "The Others." She's joined by Halle Berry for "Monster's Ball," Judi Dench for "Iris," Sissy Spacek for "In the Bedroom" and "The Deep End's" Tilda Swinton.

Will Smith hopes to knock out the competition in the best dramatic actor category nominated for his betrayal as the legendary Muhammad Ali alongside "A Beautiful Mind's" Russell Crowe, "Training Day's" Denzel Washington, Kevin Spacey for "The Shipping News" and "The Man Who Wasn't There's" Billy Bob Thornton.

Thornton also getting a nod for best actor in a comedy or a musical for his work on "Bandits." He is joined by Gene Hackman for "The Royal Tenenbaums," "Kate & Leopold's" Hugh Jackman, Ewan McGregor for "Moulin Rouge" and John Cameron Mitchell for "Headwig and the Angry Inch."

On the television side, the best drama category pits newcomers "24," "Alias," "Six Feet Under" and "C.S.I." against "The Sopranos" and last year's winner, "The West Wing." "Ally McBeal," Frasier," "Sex and the City," "Will & Grace" and "Friends" vie for the best comedy prize.

The 5th Annual Golden Globe Awards will be presented January 20th.
