CAROL LIN, CNN ANCHOR: The Ducks and Buffaloes are resting this morning, some more comfortably than others. The two teams matched up yesterday in the Fiesta Bowl with some pretty impressive results.

CNN's Josie Karp has the highlights.

JOSIE KARP, CNN CORRESPONDENT (voice-over): Led by a high powered offense that accumulated 500 yards and a much maligned defense that limited Colorado to 328, Oregon displayed its most balanced attack of the season in the Fiesta Bowl. The Ducks excelled in the three phases of football, a national title hopeful not playing in the national title game must. Their 22-point route featured offense, defense and special statements.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: We had to come out and definitely make a statement because if we didn't, everybody would say same old Oregon. You know I mean they cried and couldn't put up and forced somebody to put up, you know, I mean make everybody else shut up.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: We made a statement today, 38 unanswered points and shut down the hottest team in the country. You know we showed we deserved to be playing for a share of the national championship.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Look what we did today, this team was supposed to be the best thing. This team beat Nebraska handedly, and we came out and we rolled them. I mean I don't -- I don't understand how we're not -- how we don't factor into the mix.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Oregon played very, very well with a lot of heart, a lot of speed, and I -- if I could vote, I would vote for them.

KARP: For Oregon to have any chance at a share of the national title, it will take a surprise in Pasadena. So the Ducks set a precedent for surprises in Arizona. The shock wasn't that Oregon won but that it won so handily.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: I have to admit, I was pleasantly surprised by the outcome of the game. I thought it would be closer. I -- I'm so very pleased with our team and our players because they made that game fairly one sided. UNIDENTIFIED MALE: I thought they would put up a better fight than what they did, but you know you can't blame them. I blame the media for pumping them up the way that they did. You know we just came out and we showed our pledge (ph) in our heart and we came away with a victory.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Everything that they ran today, we ran all month in practice. I mean it was a shock for it to come that easy.

KARP (on camera): After the game, Oregon players went their separate ways to spend the rest of the holiday break with family. At the same time, most indicated that wherever they are they'll be doing the same thing on Thursday and that's watching the Rose Bowl and rooting for Nebraska.

In Tempe, I'm Josie Karp.
