CAROL COSTELLO, CNN ANCHOR: We have to talk a little sports now because I know you sports fans are wondering where Steve Spurrier went. Well the big story in the nation's capital this morning, besides the president's fainting of course, is a coaching change with the Washington Redskins.

Beth Parker of CNN affiliate WTTG joins us live from the team's training facility in Ashburn, Virginia. Spill it, Beth.

BETH PARKER, WTTG-TV REPORTER: Well apparently Steve Spurrier is in and Marty Schottenheimer is out. Now the Skins say they plan to make the Schottenheimer part of that official later this morning at a news conference here at Redskins Park in Ashburn.

Now Schottenheimer, of course, just one year into a four-year contract and that is going to cost Skins owner Dan Snyder. He is going to have to pay out the remaining $7.5 million of Schottenheimer's contract.

In a statement yesterday, Snyder said, "Schottenheimer gave 100 percent of his effort to the Redskins and made positive contributions to the team. Our decision was a difficult one and was based on philosophical management issues not on coaching ability." Snyder said he also wishes Schottenheimer well.

Meanwhile, former Florida coach Steve Spurrier has apparently reached an agreement with the Redskins. We are told it is a five-year deal worth $25 million.

BRETT CONWAY, REDSKINS KICKER: I can see us being a very offensive oriented team now and anyway, had a really solid defense this past year, but we're going to try to up our offense up and I think that's the main thing that Coach Spurrier brings.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

PARKER: Now Spurrier won a national championship at Florida and also six SEC titles in his 12 years there, an amazing tradition. The Skins, on the other hand, had a rocky season this year and also over the past few years. Ended up finishing the season 8 and 8 this year, just an even 500. And they, of course, are hoping that the hiring of Spurrier will be a turning point. Reporting live in northern Virginia, I'm Beth Parker, back to you.

COSTELLO: I know I'm laughing, Beth, but that's -- this is the fourth coach in two years. Let's go over them, Norv Turner, Terry Robiskie, Marty Schottenheimer and now Steve Spurrier, wow!

PARKER: The fourth in 13 months. Four coaches.

COSTELLO: That's unbelievable. Oh that Daniel Snyder, he makes some changes.

Thank you. Beth Parker reporting for us from Washington, D.C. from our friends at WTTG.
