CAROL COSTELLO, CNN ANCHOR: In other news this morning, a fugitive wanted for the killings of his wife and three young children is expected to return to Oregon today. Laurie Shilling of CNN affiliate KOIN has reaction from the town where two of the bodies were found.
(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)
LAURIE SHILLING, CNN AFFILIATE KOIN: A quiet calm has settled over Newport's Yaquina Bay, the site where divers found the bodies of Mary Jane and Madison Longo. Just down the street, local shop owners absorb the news of Christian Longo's arrest.
UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Glad he's caught, very glad he's caught. It'll be interesting to see now why, all the details and what happened.
SHILLING: The details will come out in a Lincoln County courthouse. The district attorney is waiting for Christian Longo.
UNIDENTIFIED DISTRICT ATTORNEY: I am pleased that he's back in the United States and will be available to be prosecuted under the United States laws.
SHILLING: Christian Longo will first be booked into the Lincoln County jail, then he'll go to court to be arraigned on seven counts of aggravated murder, then the DA needs a grand jury indictment to go to trial. The DA and the community want justice.
UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: I hope there won't just be a quick get-off for insanity type thing because this took a while thinking, a lot of planning.
UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: I hope he serves a very long time in prison.
SHILLING: If he's convicted, Christian Longo could get life in prison or he could get the death penalty. The DA says she has decided which option she'll pursue, but she doesn't want to make it public yet.
UNIDENTIFIED DISTRICT ATTORNEY: What I think is the appropriate time is when we actually get Mr. Longo here into the county and court proceedings begin and he's appointed a lawyer and at that time, we'll make the announcement.
SHILLING: So everyone in Newport is waiting for Christian Longo to get his story on what happened to his family in their town.
(END VIDEOTAPE)
COSTELLO: And that was Laurie Shilling reporting for us from Newport, Oregon.
