CAROL COSTELLO, CNN ANCHOR: Back here in the good old United States, some people in the entertainment industry are still smiling this morning. The Golden Globes were handed out last night.
Our Eric Horng has rubbed the sleep out of his eyes -- Are you awake Eric?
ERIC HORNG, CNN CORRESPONDENT: I'm doing the best I can. You know, it's like 3:30 a.m. here in L.A. and no doubt people are just now getting to bed. Some of the folks that we saw last night after those late-night Golden Globe parties.
One person who had a lot of reason to celebrate, Russell Crowe, you know he's been nominated this year the third time in a row for Best Actor in a Drama and this time he did very well with that. He picked up the Best Actor Drama Golden Globe. Another, his film, "Beautiful Mind", doing very well last night as well.
(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)
HORNG (on camera): This is the third year in a row Russell Crowe is nominated for Best Actor in a drama. The first time for "The Insider", then last year for "Gladiator", did not win for either of those performances, but this year a much more different story. The actor from down under coming out on top as did the film in which he starred.
(voice-over): A beautiful night for "A Beautiful Mind", the film detailing the life of schizophrenic genius John Nash, captured four Golden Globes including Best Picture Drama, Best Supporting Actress for Jennifer Connelly and Russell Crowe for Best Dramatic Actor.
RUSSELL CROWE, ACTOR: That was a pretty special group of nominees tonight, all of whom every single performance deserves a half a dozen of these.
HORNG: "Moulin Rouge" took home the hardware for Best Picture Musical or Comedy, star of the film Nicole Kidman walked away with Best Actress.
NICOLE KIDMAN, ACTRESS: I never thought I would be in a musical, let alone win an award for one.
HORNG: Other film winners included "In the Bedroom's" Sissy Spacek for Best Dramatic Actress. "The Royal Tenenbaums" Gene Hackman, who was unable to attend this ceremony for Best Comedic Actor, Jim Broadbent from "Iris" for Best Supporting Actor and "Gosford Park's" Robert Altman for Best Director.
ROBERT ALTMAN, DIRECTOR: I'm whelmed and overwhelmed.
HORNG: On the television side, it was a big night for newcomers. HBO's "Six Feet Under" took home the award for Best Drama, and Best Dramatic Actress went to Jennifer Garner from "Alias". Keifer Sutherland won for Best Dramatic Actor for the new show "24," and Charlie Sheen, a recent addition to "Spin City", walked away with Best Actor in a comedy.
CHARLIE SHEEN, ACTOR: This is so surreal. This is like a sober acid trip.
HORNG: HBO's "Sex and the City" won the Golden Globe for Best Musical or Comedy and series star Sarah Jessica Parker was awarded Best Comedic Actress. HBO also won for Best Miniseries or TV movie with "Band of Brothers".
(END VIDEOTAPE)
HORNG: Another memorable moment last night, the Cecil B. DeMille Lifetime Achievement Award. Last night it went to Harrison Ford.
In Hollywood, I'm Eric Horng reporting live -- Carol, back to you.
COSTELLO: Eric, you didn't tell me who had the best dress.
HORNG: You know, a lot of stunning-looking people last night, as always the case. Not a lot of people who went over the top this year, at least that we could tell from here.
But it's interesting that you mention the fashion because after the kind of subdued clothing that we saw at the Emmy shortly after September 11, fashion was kind of a question here, but a lot of people turning on the glitz and the glamour.
A lot of people saying that this was the first event - Hollywood event, since September 11, that people really felt like celebrating and kind of getting dressed up.
COSTELLO: Yes and they did get dressed up. I understand security was rather tight. They had like sharp shooters on the Beverly Hills Hotel on the roof.
HORNG: Very tight. Police presence, FBI presence, of course, magnetometers at the entrance. They limited the number of bleacher seating that you see on the red carpet. The fans who want to kind of see their stars, security very tight this year.
COSTELLO: OK Eric Horng, we'll let you get to sleep now.
