THIS IS A RUSH TRANSCRIPT. THIS COPY MAY NOT BE IN ITS FINAL FORM AND MAY BE UPDATED. CAROL COSTELLO, CNN ANCHOR: The search is on this morning for a gunman who launched an attack on the American Center in Calcutta, India today.
CNN's Satinder Bindra has the latest.
SATINDER BINDRA, CNN CORRESPONDENT: The death toll in this incident has now gone up to four. All the dead, police say, are Indian policemen, and at least another 14 people have been injured. According to the U.S. Embassy here in New Delhi, none of the injured are U.S. Center staff.
Early this morning, police say, at least two unidentified gunmen on motorcycles opened fire on the American Center in the eastern Indian city of Calcutta. This American Center houses the U.S. Consulate's press office, a cultural center and a library. Actually, it's quite a landmark in Calcutta. Every day hundreds of students visit its library. And at the time of the fighting there was no one inside the building.
Soon after the fighting, police say both gunmen escaped. At the moment, a massive manhunt has been launched inside the eastern Indian state of West Bengal. Police say they have no idea about the motivation of this attack.
COSTELLO: Satinder Bindra reporting. We'll have more live from India a little later on.
