FAA Introduces Webpage for Flight Delays

CHAD MYERS, CNN METEOROLOGIST: All this week and even next week, I want to show you some of the tools that I use to forecast the weather so maybe you can just log onto your computer and make your own forecast. One of the things we do here to try to keep you up to date, obviously, the airport delays. Where do we get that information? In fact it's www.fly -- fly -- .faa -- like the Federal Aviation Administration -- .gov, and they give us an entire map of the entire United States.

Now maybe you don't care about San Francisco or San Jose so you can zoom in. If you just click onto the northeast, you can look at every airport here across the northeast. And if there was a yellow dot or a red dot, that would really tell you that there is something going on at that airport. As it clicks on and clicks off, it updates every three minutes. That's what it's doing right now. So if there would be a new status update for us, it would actually show us what's going on. Here's the new -- this is how it comes down. This is the flight out FAA. This is the northeast.

If you click on text only version, if you don't really care about the map, if you want to see what's actually going on at each airport, you click on that. It thinks about it for a while and it tells you right here all air traffic is currently experiencing delays of less than 15 minutes. That's the good news, at least for this morning. Many times we have reports of significant delays and that's where we get it.

Coming up during the rest of the week and the weeks to come, we'll show you where we get all the forecast products too and how we make all the forecast and how we make the snow totals as well.
