CAROL COSTELLO, CNN ANCHOR: If you're into music, then perhaps you'll be watching tonight's Grammy Awards program. And we have a very special guest to talk about the Grammys. Tracy St. George hosts the noon to four afternoon show here in Atlanta on Q100.5.
TRACY ST. GEORGE, ATLANTA DISC JOCKEY: Yes.
COSTELLO: Thank you so much for joining this morning.
ST. GEORGE: Of course.
COSTELLO: Waking up early...
ST. GEORGE: Really early.
COSTELLO: ... you even look awake.
ST. GEORGE: Thank you. It's the makeup.
COSTELLO: They're wonderful, aren't they?
ST. GEORGE: Yes.
COSTELLO: Oh, yeah. So let's talk about the Grammys. You have your picks all picked out.
ST. GEORGE: Yes, I do.
COSTELLO: And we want to -- we want to see what they are. So let's get right to it.
ST. GEORGE: OK.
COSTELLO: The best new artist -- and we're going to go down the list...
ST. GEORGE: OK.
COSTELLO: India.Arie, Nelly Furtado, David Gray -- I don't even know who that is.
ST. GEORGE: "Babylon," -- the song "Babylon."
COSTELLO: Oh, "Babylon," yes. ST. GEORGE: OK.
COSTELLO: Alicia Keys and Linkin Park.
ST. GEORGE: I'm going to have to go with Alicia Keys. I know. She really -- she's hip, she's cool, she has great hats. Her hair always looks really great, and she did have -- "Songs In A Minor" was a top selling release by a rookie artist in 2001. So I really think that she is going to get this one, even though she really is kind of over-hyped a little bit.
COSTELLO: It seems, though, that she's been ordained to win from the get-go.
ST. GEORGE: Yes. But, you know, this -- this category always seems to have the bad luck jinx on it, so we might not ever see her after tonight, which is bad for her, kind of OK for us.
COSTELLO: Yeah, because didn't Milli Vanilli win this?
ST. GEORGE: Yes. Paula Cole, Mark Cohen (ph), where are they now?
COSTELLO: Nowhere.
ST. GEORGE: Exactly.
COSTELLO: OK. Let's talk about album of the year. "Acoustic Soul," by India.Arie; "Love and Theft," Bob Dylan; "Stankonia," Outkast; "All That You Can't Leave Behind," U2. And what do you think?
ST. GEORGE: "O Brother Where Art Thou" is also in there. And I actually have a tie for this one. I think it's going to be a tie between U2 and "O Brother Where Art Thou."
COSTELLO: Really?
ST. GEORGE: Yeah, because I think this album with U2 -- I think it really brought them back into the spotlight. And the "O Brother Where Art Thou," I really didn't like the movie, but I love George Clooney and I really like the soundtrack, so I think that one's going to -- going to pull it through.
COSTELLO: And talking about U2, did you see "TIME" magazine?
ST. GEORGE: No.
COSTELLO: "TIME" magazine, where -- where's my camera here? "TIME" magazine says, "Bono can save the world."
ST. GEORGE: I think he can. I'm going to have to go with "TIME" and say yes.
COSTELLO: Cool. OK. Female pop performance: "I'm Like A Bird," Nelly Furtado; "There You'll Be," Faith Hill; "By Your Side," Sade; "Essence," Lucinda Williams.
ST. GEORGE: I think it's going to have to be Janet Jackson, "Someone To Call My Lover."
COSTELLO: Oh, she's in there too.
ST. GEORGE: She's in there too. And I think this has really been her year. She's getting a divorce, she's freeing herself. The guy's -- kind of sounds like a creep, so I think that it's going to be Janet Jackson, "Someone To Call My Lover."
COSTELLO: You're making it sound like a lot of other things matter besides just the singing.
ST. GEORGE: I think so. It really matters, you know, how the people are. How cool they are, how much we like them, how much they're seen in the public.
COSTELLO: Well, but the Grammy voters haven't always been so hip. I mean, they did pick the Starland Vocal Band -- you know, that song "Afternoon Delight?" They picked that one.
ST. GEORGE: They did?
COSTELLO: Yeah.
ST. GEORGE: I never liked that song. That was not one of my favorites.
COSTELLO: OK. Let's go to song of the year.
ST. GEORGE: OK.
COSTELLO: "Drops Of Jupiter," Train; "Fallin'," Alicia Keys; "I'm Like A Bird," Nelly Furtado; "Stuck In A Moment...," U2; and "Video," India.Arie.
ST. GEORGE: I'm going to say -- typically, "Fallin'" should actually win, because two-thirds of the time the song that wins the record of the year should also win song of the year, but I just don't think it's going to go that way this year. I think it's going to be U2 again. I think it's really going to be U2's year.
COSTELLO: Don't you think that song "Drops Of Jupiter" has -- has...
ST. GEORGE: Dropped?
COSTELLO: No, it's still around and it's still played. You don't think that will win, right?
ST. GEORGE: No -- no, I don't.
COSTELLO: OK. Where should we go next?
ST. GEORGE: I like him -- I like Train, but no. I don't think they're going to win.
COSTELLO: OK. Do we have album of the year?
ST. GEORGE: Yes we do.
COSTELLO: OK.
ST. GEORGE: And we did album of the year. That was U2 or "O Brother Where Art Thou."
COSTELLO: OK, got you. Cool.
ST. GEORGE: We got performance by a duo or group. If it was the Tracy St. George awards, the Backstreet Boys would win. However, it's not, so I think it's once again going to be U2.
COSTELLO: Really?
ST. GEORGE: Of course, he can save the world.
COSTELLO: You actually like the Backstreet Boys?
ST. GEORGE: I love the Backstreet Boys. Yes, I do.
COSTELLO: So they're good, musically? They're not just pretty boy band?
ST. GEORGE: No -- no, they're very good. I like them better than 'NSync. My friend is going to kill me, but I really like the Backstreet Boys better. I'm a Howie D groupie.
COSTELLO: One question for you. I mean, if there was a big, huge surprise tonight, what do you think it will be?
ST. GEORGE: For winning?
COSTELLO: Yes.
ST. GEORGE: I would have to say if Madonna wins, because she's not nominated. But that would be definitely a big surprise. So that's what I'm hoping for tonight.
COSTELLO: OK. Well you're going to be back with us tomorrow morning to see if your picks were accurate.
ST. GEORGE: Yes. Don't put money on it, though. I'm not a professional.
COSTELLO: I'm putting money on it. I am. Thank you, Tracy St. George, for coming in this morning.
ST. GEORGE: Thank you.
COSTELLO: OK.
