CAROL COSTELLO, CNN ANCHOR: In San Diego, prosecutors believe they have significant evidence in the case of Danielle van Dam, the little girl kidnapped from her home and later found dead. David Westerfield is the defendant.
Reporter Steve Fiorina of our San Diego affiliate KGTV has more testimony from yesterday's hearing.
(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)
STEVE FIORINA, KGTV-TV REPORTER (voice-over): A police computer specialist says David Westerfield had tons of computer files, Zip disks, CD-ROMs filled with pornography, 64,000 pictures, 2,200 videos. Some of them described as child pornography, which is illegal, and which the D.A. says points to motive in the kidnapping and murder of Danielle van Dam.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: And it had depictions of people under the age of 18 that were either clothed or partially -- I'm sorry -- sorry, naked or partially naked and who were either engaged in sexual acts or in sexual poses, that sort of thing.
FIORINA: There were also photographs of another Danielle, bikini pictures of the teenage daughter of a friend of Westerfield, and there was a series of animations.
DETECTIVE JIM WATKINS, SAN DIEGO POLICE: It appears to be a young female. As you go through the series, it appears the female is bound by rope, with her hands fairly behind her back.
FIORINA: Fingerprints and bloodstains were also brought as evidence. Westerfield had dropped off several items at his neighborhood cleaners the Monday morning he had returned from the desert, two days after Danielle's disappearance.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: He presented her with five items, two comforter covers and two comforters along with a jacket.
FIORINA: That jacket police said had a dime size drop of Danielle's blood on it. Also, Westerfield acted nervous.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: She says that she has known Mr. Westerfield for several years and on this occasion he seemed upset.
FIORINA: His motorhome had a bloodstain and more.
UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: There was a print that I got off of the -- there's some cabinets on the side of the -- on both sides of the bed, actually, but one cabinet would happen to be on the driver's side of the motorhome is where I developed some latent prints.

COSTELLO: Again, that was Steve Fiorina of our San Diego affiliate KGTV. Westerfield's preliminary hearing resumes tomorrow. We will keep you updated.
