CAROL COSTELLO, CNN ANCHOR: All right, as I told you, we're following breaking news out of Iraq this morning.
Live now to Ben Wedeman in Baghdad -- can you give us the latest on the attack on the Italian police headquarters?

BEN WEDEMAN, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Yes, Carol, that attack occurred at about, about three hours ago at this point on the Italian police headquarters in Nasiriyah. The Italian defense ministry in Rome is now confirming that, indeed, it was an attack. At this point they're saying at least six Italian policemen were killed and there are more, they say, trapped in the rubble.

Now, the Jazeera Arab television news network is reporting that, according to their information, it was a suicide bombing. But there's no independent confirmation of that -- Carol.

COSTELLO: We understand that there could be survivors in the rubble.

Can you tell us more about that?

WEDEMAN: No, that's all of the information we have at this point. Obviously, in the aftermath of this kind of bombing that we've seen also here in Baghdad many times, the scene is very chaotic. It's very hard to get hard and fast information. We've also been told that communications between the Italian base there and the rest of the world, at this point, is rather difficult -- Carol.

COSTELLO: Of course, this is going to hit the Italian population hard because the citizens of Italy aren't thrilled that the military police are over there, are they?

WEDEMAN: I'm sorry, Carol, I think I'm losing my communications with you.

COSTELLO: OK. Can you hear me now?

Ben, can you hear me?

He cannot hear me now.

We're going to ask David Clinch that question because he's sitting right there. We'll ask him in just a minute.
