KYRA PHILLIPS, CNN ANCHOR: We brought you just the latest news on Rudy Giuliani. He's been going through the divorce suits, he and his estranged wife, Donna Hanover. We're told they did come to an out of court settlement. I understand our Jason Carroll is just outside of the courtroom with more on what happened. What's the deal, Jason?
JASON CARROLL, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Well, I can tell you, Kyra, it is now officially over, the case of Giuliani versus Hanover. The divorce case finally settled in court today, just, actually, just about a few moments ago. Rudy Giuliani and Donna Hanover had been arguing for basically the past 18 months trying to hammer out some of the details of how these two would settle some of their differences.
They were finally able to reach some sort of an agreement, this after their attorneys hammered out some of the last-minute details late last night, early this morning and into this afternoon. Today was the last day they had to settle their differences. Otherwise, this divorce case was actually going to go to trial. Both sides had already had enough of the publicity. That is something that they definitely wanted to avoid.
Before 9/11, this story was the story, actually, here in New York City. Both sides airing some of their complaints in some of the local tabloids. Giuliani basically claiming that this was -- Hanover had placed him in a situation where he was dealing with cruel and unusual punishment for the way that she was dealing when he was dealing with prostate cancer. Hanover, on the other hand, was basically saying, look, it was Giuliani who was cruel because she had to deal with his very open relationship, his open affair, with one of his companions.
So, again, these two have come to a settlement. The settlement has been sealed. We're going to have some more details for you coming up at the end of the show -- Kyra.
PHILLIPS: All right. Jason Carroll -- thanks, Jason.
