KYRA PHILLIPS, CNN ANCHOR: Now to the Middle East. Israeli forces have mounted a massive manhunt today for the terrorists responsible for a deadly bus ambush. Eight Israelis were killed in yesterday's attack.

CNN's Mike Hanna joins us from Jerusalem with the latest from there -- Mike.

MIKE HANNA, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Well, Kyra, Israeli forces fanned out around the West Bank settlement of Emanuel, outside of which the attack took place. In the early hours of the morning, they encountered a group of Palestinian gunmen. An intense firefight took place, during which one of the Palestinians was killed, as well as an Israeli soldier. The Israeli Defense Force still investigating whether that group and the dead gunman were, in fact, connected to the attack in Emanuel.

The consequence of the attack or one of the consequences, a meeting that had been due to take place between Israel's Foreign Minister Shimon Peres and some Palestinian Authority ministers, was canceled. This meeting possibly will take place later in the week.

Meanwhile, the funerals of those killed in the attacks continued throughout the day. Among the dead: a grandmother, her son-in-law and her grandchild, three generations of one family killed in the attack And in the course of the day, too, an eighth person dying. That person who died was a baby who had been delivered prematurely by cesarean section to a pregnant woman who had been one of those wounded in the attack -- Kyra.

PHILLIPS: Mike Hanna live from Jerusalem -- thanks, Mike.
