KYRA PHILLIPS, CNN ANCHOR: A cold winter morning in a quiet park not far from the Pentagon. The perfect setting for a scene in a spy movie. Only this was no movie, and the veteran double agent was about to get busted.
CNN Justice Department Kelli Arena joins us with the newly released pictures of Robert Hanssen's dramatic arrest.

Amazing video, Kelli.

KELLI ARENA, CNN JUSTICE CORRESPONDENT: It is pretty amazing.

The FBI has made available, for the very first time, this video of Robert Hanssen as he was arrested. Now Hanssen, as you know, is serving life in prison for operating as a spy for Russia. He provided top secret information to the former Soviet Union, then Russia over a span of 15 years.

Here you go, you see him exiting the park. This is just after he dropped off classified information at a designated area. The FBI, obviously, waiting in the wings for him. You can tell by his demeanor he wasn't really shocked by the agents. We were told at that time that his comment to his former colleagues was, Well, what took you so long to find me?

Hanssen later, as part of an investigation, admitted that he did have an inkling that his colleagues were on to him, but he still chose to make one more drop of top secret information.

Now Hanssen has cooperated with officials, that was part of his plea agreement to avoid the death penalty. But some believe that he has not yet told them all that he knows.

Now, as for the damage that he caused, the assessment continues. Officials say that that could take years before they uncover the damage that he did -- Kyra.

PHILLIPS: Kelli Arena, thank you.
