KYRA PHILLIPS, CNN ANCHOR: A Wisconsin man is in critical condition and brain dead after he was savagely beaten by a mob of 20 youths. Police have eight suspects in custody. They range in age from 10 to 14.
Sunday night's attack has sparked fear and anger in one Milwaukee community.
Tami Kou of WTMJ has that story.
(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)
CELESTINE ROGERS, MILWAUKEE RESIDENT: Who will be next? Will it be me?
TAMI KOU, WTMJ REPORTER (voiceover): Celestine Rogers is frightened and frustrated over the brutal attack in her neighborhood. Tonight, she and local leaders want answers.
LUCILLE BENNET, MIDTOWN NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATION: We're going to take the neighborhood back. The residents are tired of being prisoners in their own homes.
KOU: The Midtown Neighborhood Association is tired of seeing things like what happened last night.
It was on this porch that 36-year-old Charles Young was nearly beaten to death by a crowd of about 20 juveniles.
KEITH YOUNG, VICTIM'S BROTHER: It was unhuman what they did.
KOU: Police say it started when one of the kids threw an egg at Young. Young fought back by punching one of the kids. The juveniles then retaliated by beating Young with bats, boards, and shovels.
Beating him so severely blood splattered from the floor to the ceiling. Young tried to get inside the home but the juveniles smashed the door and dragged him out.
K. YOUNG: All I can say is, If they had any kind of heart about how they would want their family or brother treated, they wouldn't have did that.
KOU: Alderman Fred Gordon is calling on police to put an end to the violence.
FRED GORDON, ALDERMAN: Obviously, police presence in the neighborhood has to be upgraded and escalated so that people can clearly understand that that kind of activity won't be tolerated.
(END VIDEOTAPE)
PHILLIPS: And Milwaukee police are still searching for more suspects in that beating.
