KYRA PHILLIPS, CNN ANCHOR: For a week now, Iraqi leaders have said U.N. weapons inspectors are more than welcome to search anywhere, anytime, just not the presidential palaces.
Well, we've obtained State Department satellite photos of certain palaces inside Iraq.

Here's CNN Baghdad bureau chief Jane Arraf with more.

Hi, Jane.

JANE ARRAF, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Hi, Kyra.

Well, it's true these satellite photos probably show more of the palaces than most Iraqis have ever seen.

But Iraqi officials say the palace inspections have been done exhaustively and when weapons inspectors were here in the past, under the procedures that they're trying to maintain, they searched every inch of those places.

In 1998, after a very painful agreement brokered with U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan that averted a military attack, weapons inspectors went into the Republican palace. They were accompanied at the time by diplomats, of course, something Iraq wants to maintain.

They also went into the -- the inspectors did, the palace at Tharthar.

Now, the Iraqi Oil Minister, Gen. Amar Rashid, who is also a military strategist, is appearing on television as we speak. Iraqi television, saying that at that time, during those inspections, Iraq wanted to make sure that they actually wouldn't have to come back. He claims they opened the palace doors and opened everything to them.

In fact, he says, the inspectors searched everything from the trees to the gutters. Now Iraq, again today, maintaining that there are no new resolutions needed. It's happy to have the inspectors come, happy to have them go into the palaces, but not with no notice and not by themselves -- Kyra.

PHILLIPS: Baghdad bureau chief Jane Arraf.

Thanks, Jane.
