KYRA PHILLIPS, CNN ANCHOR: Well, celebrity heavyweights Michelle Pfeiffer and Madonna are two of the faces you'll see in the latest crop of chick flicks to hit theaters this weekend.
CNN Espanol's Ana Marie Montero joins us from Los Angeles with some tips on those best picks.
Good to see you, girl.
ANA MARIE MONTERO, CNNENESPANOL: Talk about long time. Cuanto tiempo? Kyra with a K, I almost forgot what you looked like, if I didn't see you on TV every day.
PHILLIPS: We were watching you, of course, even though we understand about half of what you're saying on CNNEspanol.
But, hey, speaking of Madonna, you're looking pretty hot. I took a flash and you're sort of looking like Madonna today.
MONTERO: Oh my god. Thank you. Thank you, because I have happen to think she is a crazily just exotic woman. I think she's very attractive, so I take that as a major compliment.
PHILLIPS: Major compliment. Well, tell us about her flick. Tell us about and is it any good?
MONTERO: She is -- wow. Well, I don't, you know, I don't like to toot my horn as a critic.
All I'm going to say is that Guy Ritchie shot a phenomenal film. I mean, it's very beautifully shot.
I mean, can you imagine? I mean, it's in the middle of the Mediterranean. Do you know what I mean? You're stuck on an island with a -- an incredibly hot Italian man. I mean, that's not a bad gig, you know.
PHILLIPS: And she was working with her husband though on this movie, right? Did he get jealous? Do you have any inside scoop?
MONTERO: Well, you know, she was talking -- it's funny you asked that. She was talking to Larry King about that last night, as a matter of fact. And she said that, No, that, you know, it was just -- they were just acting in it. Between takes, she would go and talk to Guy Ritchie. And, you know, it was very professional on her part. But that's -- what else is she going to say, right? I mean, she was with her husband.
PHILLIPS: You're not going to give up too much scoop. Well, is it funny? Is it --
MONTERO: It's definitely funny. I mean, for me it was a cross, like, between, you know, "Blue Lagoon" and maybe "Taming of the Shrew," if that makes sense...
PHILLIPS: Oh, that's pretty scary.
MONTERO: But everybody has that dream. You know, everybody has that fantasy of maybe being stuck on a deserted island with a very attractive person, you know, and what's going to come of that. So, there's that sort of element.
And then there's "The Taming of the Shrew," where she is a complete shrew and he really has to, you know, do everything that he can to get her to behave like some sort of a normal human being.
PHILLIPS: All, right, this other movie, another chick flick everybody's talking about with Michelle Pfeiffer.
Boy, she's another beautiful actress.
MONTERO: God, she is and she is so good in this movie.
But Michelle -- Michelle is such a wonderful actor that I don't think she can screw anything up to be quite honest with you.
But in this -- and this is a very different movie than "Swept Away."
It's very much a chick flick because the definition of chick flick is a lot of crying and this is a bring-your-Kleenex kind of movie.
But, she plays this very strong woman who has a daughter who basically she murders one of her boyfriends, the mother does, Michelle does. So that the daughter has to go through the series of foster homes until, you know, it's kind of a situation between she and the -- her daughter resolves itself if that -- I don't want to give too much away. But, that's basically it. It's very much a mother-daughter sort of thing.
And it's also got more wonderful actresses in it. Renee Zellweger also has a role in it and Robin Wright Penn, so, definitely, I think this is a must see chick flick of the weekend.
PHILLIPS: All right, well it sounds good. We'll all have to talk the husbands, boyfriends, whatever to go see these movies. Or they could all go together.
MONTERO: You got to take the girls. PHILLIPS: OK, there you go. Ana Marie Montero, always a pleasure. We'll see you next time.
MONTERO: Likewise.
PHILLIPS: Buen dio.
MONTERO: Gracias.
