MARTIN SAVIDGE, CNN ANCHOR: Sniper suspect John Muhammad stood before a judge in Virginia this morning. He faces the death penalty, and 17-year-old suspect John Malvo is due in court in about an hour.
We get the latest now from CNN's Kathleen Koch. She is standing by in Fairfax, Virginia -- Kathleen.
KATHLEEN KOCH, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Marty, this will be the first open court appearance for John Lee Malvo. He will be appearing, actually, in about one minute in Fairfax County Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court.
He will be appearing before Chief Judge Charles Mansfield (ph), and what the judge is expected to do at this point is appoint an attorney to represent Malvo. Of course, he is going to be facing charges of capital murder in the October 14 slaying of FBI analyst Linda Franklin, who was shot outside that Home Depot store.
It was earlier today that John Allen Muhammad appeared in court west of here, in Prince William County. Muhammad was frowning, and very sullen when he shuffled slowly into court, his ankles shackled. He answered questions put to him by the judge very politely.
The judge read out the indictments against him, two for capital murder in the October 9 shooting death of Dean Harold Meyers at a Manassas gas station, also indictments for conspiracy to commit a felony, and also for use or display of a firearm in a threatening manner while committing a felony.
Prosecutor Paul Ebert says that his case will definitely tie in the other sniper shootings around the country.
In any case, I guess we don't have that sound bite from prosecutor Ebert. Also, law enforcement sources do tell CNN that on the laptop computer that was found with the suspects at the time of their arrest was something that was essentially -- quote -- "a blue print" for the shootings, that one source tells CNN presents -- quote -- "very strong evidence against the two suspects."
It apparently places them at the exact locations where many of the shootings occurred, and according to one law enforcement source, there were also maps on the laptop that may have been used to plot get aways after those shootings -- Marty.
SAVIDGE: Kathleen, on the issue of John Malvo, when do we get to the issue of if he is going to be tried as an adult or not? KOCH: Not sure if we are going to hear that today. We know, again, that the principal reason for this hearing is to give him an attorney, and then obviously, it will be up to that attorney to begin filing court papers and beginning on arguments along those points.
Obviously, he would be wanting to prevent his client from being tried as an adult. However, here in Virginia, of course, they do also put juveniles to death. They are up for the death penalty.
SAVIDGE: All right. Kathleen Koch, thanks very much.
