MARTIN SAVIDGE, CNN ANCHOR: Kyra Phillips, live in Kuwait City, filling us in on the readiness of the U.S. troops in the region -- Kyra.
KYRA PHILLIPS, CNN CORRESPONDENT: That's right, readiness and a war plan for if indeed the president says that has to happen. Forces here, Marty, training 24/7, because if the war does take place, forces would have to seize northern, western and southern sectors of Iraq, and do it quickly. Commanders tell me the war plan would include air strikes and other attacks on regime targets, targets defined as security forces and suspected hideaways with weapons of mass destruction.

Also within the war plan, Marty, there's a dual mission in this plan. It's designed to encourage Iraqis to revolt against President Saddam Hussein. Sources say they believe that would be more of a revolution -- rather there would be more of a resolution that's going to happen in Iraq, rather than something that's brought about solely by U.S. military. U.S. military would just pave the way for that action to happen.

Now, if the president says they have to go, troops here say that they are ready. We've been observing a number of training missions for four weeks, strike fighting missions, recon missions and, more recently, naval special warfare. This happened just a few days ago. We're hoping to get those pictures to you in the next couple of days. Basically, naval special warfare out in the region. Navy SEALS, combatant crew men, training on their mark five (ph) and RIB capability (ph), special operations water craft. They've been working on weapons proficiency with .50 caliber machine gun training, in addition to grenade launchers. I can tell you definitely if anything were to happen, if the call were to come, that the troops out here are ready to go at any moment -- Marty.

Kyra Phillips, essentially good to go. Thank you very much, live from Kuwait City.
