MARTIN SAVIDGE, CNN ANCHOR: A massive manhunt is under way at this hour for an escaped inmate from a Kentucky jail. He got away from police in a dramatic high-speed chase, even as his alleged accomplice in the jail break surrendered in Ohio.
CNN's Charles Molineaux has been covering this story -- joins us live now from Conway, South Carolina. And of course the big concern, the missing woman.
What do we know about this?
CHARLES MOLINEAUX, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Yes, Martin, that is a major concern at this point. No one knows where this woman is, and that's a big problem even as we hear about this chase last night and of course the apprehension of one of these suspects on Sunday night.
But let's talk about what happened. This chase happened in the area of Marion, Ohio, north of Columbus. Ohio State Police say they pursued a stolen BMW for about seven, eight miles along U.S. Highway 283 at speeds up to 130 miles an hour. This all started in a rest stop when a cop saw the car, got suspicious and tried to approach the driver. The driver took off. Police tried putting down spikes in front of the car; the driver managed to elude them and got away.
The cops said the FBI has now looked at their videotape of the incident confirmed that this is indeed 25-year-old Chadrick Fulks, the fugitive still on the loose.
It was Sunday night the police in Ashland, Kentucky, got ahold of the other fugitive, 21-year-old Brandon Bashem. He was allegedly involved in a carjacking there and later turned himself in. It wasn't until last night that police actually knew who they had. They said Bashem gave them a false name. (UNINTELLIGIBLE)
Police say Bashem and Fulks broke out of jail in Hopkins County, Kentucky, two weeks ago and then carjacked and kidnapped a man there and left him tied to a tree in Indiana. Then, investigators say, last week, they shot at a man who caught them burglarizing a house here in (UNINTELLIGIBLE) County, South Carolina, then carjacked 44-year-old Alice Donovan (ph) in the Wal-Mart parking lot right here and took off with her BMW.
That was last Thursday. She is still missing. As I mentioned, it was a BMW that police were chasing in that chase last night. That one had West Virginia license plates, but police say that they know those plates have been taken off a different car. So this could very well have been Alice Donovan's (ph) car. In all the reports we have heard about what happened last night, we did not hear any reports of there being a second person in that stolen BMW, which raises the question at this point where is Alice Donovan (ph), a major concern, and the FBI has said for the past couple of days that they are very concerned for her safety -- Martin.
SAVIDGE: What about this suspect? Is there any way that he can be convinced to tell them where this woman is, how she is?
MOLINEAUX: Police are being very closed mouthed about this. The fact is that didn't know until last night who he was, and the FBI has been reluctant to confirm that they had him. We are hoping to hear from police in Ashland later this afternoon as well as from the FBI and police here in Conway, South Carolina, a little bit later on today. But at this point, they're not saying much about what they have managed to learn from him. We can only hope that there could be some help derived from the fact they now do have him in custody.
Charles Molineaux, thank you very much. We'll hope for good news. We appreciate it.
