MARTIN SAVIDGE, CNN ANCHOR: The high-tech industry showing off its newest electronic curiosities in Las Vegas. We know many of the new products in this year's Comdex show will inevitably become tomorrow's essentials.
CNN technology correspondent Daniel Sieberg joins us live with a look at some of the best doggone gadgets he could find, and so have others.

DANIEL SIEBERG, CNN CORRESPONDENT: That's right, you know, Marty, there are literally thousands of gadgets here on the show floor of Comdex here in Las Vegas, and narrowing down the best is no easy task. The editors of "PC Magazine" have done that, and I'm joined by Michael Mealer (ph), the editor-in-chief to talk about some of the top gadgets.

Let's jump in with the smallest one on our table here.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: What we have here is a phone from Nokia, called the 3650. What makes it interesting is it's got a great display, and a camera on the back, the best camera we've seen. You can go up, take a picture right now. So you can take a picture, go through, do whatever you want. Very nice. Little phone, does a lot.

SIEBERG: And how much is this going to go for?

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: It's going to probably be offered generally with service plans a couple hundred bucks.

SIEBERG: Is it available now on the market?

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: It will be available very shortly, next couple of weeks.

SIEBERG: All right.

So from the phone to something people may have been hearing about recently, a tablet PC. We've a couple here. Let's start with the Toshiba Portege (ph).

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: OK, the Toshiba here is a 12-inch screen, a pretty big tablet, great screen, nice way of working on it. You can just very simply pick it up and turn it around, and you've got a regular notebook.

SIEBERG: And the tablet PC allows you to write on the screen, right? UNIDENTIFIED MALE: That's correct, you can write on the screen. You can also draw on the screen, great for marking up diagrams, great for taking notes, great for reading electronic books and things like that.

SIEBERG: And this is available now?

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: This is available right now.

Another one that's available right now is the Compaq tablet from HP. What's nice about this is it's a very nice unit. Here it is in a docking station. It can be attached to a big monitor with a big keyboard, or you can just push the button, pull it up and you have a lightweight tablet. You've got the lightest weight of tablets. It can be flipped around, plugged in here, plugged in the with keyboard. Use it as a keyword tablet, anyway you want to. You can write on the screen, you know, you can say hello or whatever you want to do. Go on from there.

SIEBERG: That's a couple of things. Finally, we've got the photo printer. We'll have to mention it very quickly, Michael.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: What this is, is a scanner. If you're like me, you've got lots of photos at home. With this HP scanner, you can put a stack of photos in here, and all of a sudden, they'll all show up on your computer.

SIEBERG: Great. And the price for that then?

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Couple hundred dollars -- $299.

SIEBERG: OK, great. Martin that's a sampling -- thank you, Michael.

That's just a sampling of some of the stuff in the show here in Las Vegas. We'll be keeping an eye out for some of the things as they show up on shelves and in stores for consumers.

Back to you, Martin.

SAVIDGE: All right, you do that, Daniel. Thank you very much. I love gadgets.
