MARTIN SAVIDGE, CNN ANCHOR: If you like gadgets, Comdex has them.
So does our James Hattori. He's live from the big tech trade show in Las Vegas.

Hello, James. Good to see you again.

JAMES HATTORI, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Hi again, Marty.

We all know what this is, the ubiquitous Palm Pilot, or PDA. What if I told you could have this in half the size? What if I told you could have it in one fifth the size? Do I sound like a carnival pitchman here?

We'll let this gentleman who is with us here will show us how this works. Donald Brewer (ph) with Fossil watches has come up with a wrist PDA. Take a look at this. It is actually called the Fossil and Abacus watches. Tell us about it.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: This is -- Fossil has done what no one really thought was possible. That's take the Palm operating system and size it down to a wearable format, which is really what people want to do -- is take their information with them everywhere they go.

HATTORI: What does this cost?

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Fossil will be launching -- it's Fossil brand of product in the Macy's watch stations. It's on Fossil stores at $299 and lower -- that's for this version -- and then the Abacus is a new tech brand which you will find in the electronic superstores $199 and lower.

HATTORI: Does this have the same functionality as all the other Palms?

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: It is a Palm on the wrist: 2 meg internal memory, rechargeable battery and all the applications people have come to love and expect in a Palm.

HATTORI: So the question is why would you want it on your wrist?

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: I think most people have said, basically, I have this extra device, and do I carry it in my suit packet or do I carry it in my other pocket. I think the thing is it gives it to you wherever you go. You don't have to think about it.

HATTORI: You are saying most people who have Palms don't carry it half the time or something like that?

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: A large percentage of men when they go out after work, they really don't take their Palm with them. This is when they might want their map information, contact information. This gives to them where they want it.

SAVIDGE: These are available when?

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: They will be shipping after first quarter 2003.

HATTORI: Every function that you have on your Palm -- is it hard to read, hard to write?

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: No, in fact, it, like a Palm, features a Graffiti input. So it actually allows you to have a stylus part of the band and write directly on the screen. So it is a Palm on every (UNINTELLIGIBLE) wrist.

HATTORI: Donald Brewer (ph) with Fossil watches, trying to add a little style to the tech crowd here at Comdex. These watches will be available first quarter, second quarter of next year.

Marty, back to you.

James Hattori, live with the gadgets, thanks very much.
