KYRA PHILLIPS, CNN ANCHOR: If you're looking for something to do after chowing down Thanksgiving dinner, well, you might want to check out that movie or the movie behind me. A few new ones are opening this week.
Ana Maria Montero joins us from L.A. with a look at what is hitting the big screen.
Novia, how are you?
ANA MARIA MONTERO, CNN EN ESPANOL: Good. How have you been, Tika (ph)? Last I saw you, you were on some military aircraft.
PHILLIPS: Yes, that is right, over in the Persian Gulf. Now I'm back in reality, I can kiss American soil, and look forward to going to the movies.
MONTERO: Wonderful. Well, you've got a lot to choose from this week, Kyra, that's for sure. You are looking for something to do after you chow on your Thanksgiving dinner. The movies is always a good choice on Thanksgiving day. We have like, ten openings, about five wide releases. The rest are sort of limited releases, but including "Solaris," which is George Clooney's new movie.
George is starring in this movie that is directed by his partner and friend, Steven Soderbergh, and this is actually produced by James Cameron, Kyra.
And it is kind of like a sci-fi romance. You have really have to make a leap of faith on this one. But it really, you know, it's about three hours long, so it's one of those...
PHILLIPS: Yes, but three hours of George Clooney. Come on. You can't lose with that, can you?
MONTERO: I know, especially with a couple of those scenes...
PHILLIPS: Hey, you know what, you bring up an interesting point, talking about his, you know, I guess shall we say, backside.
MONTERO: Backside works. Backside works.
PHILLIPS: Here's what he said about that. Let's talk about it. Hold on. Let's listen.
MONTERO: OK.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
GEORGE CLOONEY, ACTOR: When you see it, you'll go, Oh, well, that's a silly thing to make a big deal out of. It is really nothing, it has nothing to do with the film. I think it sort of came down to something to talk about, because it's -- it's a complicated film, and it's tough to find things to talk about.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
PHILLIPS: Yes, right. What's so complicated about talking about his naked butt. How many times do you see it, three times in the movie?
MONTERO: I don't know -- yes, like two or three times. Exactly. You could probably get quite enough of it. But knowing him, he wouldn't want to use a double anyway.
PHILLIPS: Good point. Movie No. 2, "8 Crazy Nights." I love Adam Sandler. He's terrific.
MONTERO: He is so talented, he really is, and in this movie, it's an animated movie. He does the voices of the three main characters. First, you have got Davey Stone, who is this 33-year-old sort of party animal who finally gets in trouble, and they tell him, either you go to jail or you do community service over the holidays.
And so his community service includes his little cohort, the little referee, Whitey, and his twin sister, Eleanore. And so it's sort of about what happens between these three guys and Adam Sandler does all these voices, Kyra.
PHILLIPS: He's so talented.
MONTERO: And I have to say, it includes a new version of the "Hanukkah Song."
PHILLIPS: Oh, wow.
MONTERO: That's pretty major.
(CROSSTALK)
PHILLIPS: That is a big deal. Yes, really. Another animation, "Treasure Planet." Now, this is a remake of "Treasure Island," but up in space, right?
MONTERO: Exactly. That's basically it. Again, it is a Disney animated version of that story, where this kid is a cabin boy on the ship, and all of the adventure that he sort of undergoes while they encounter all these different dangers. It's a coming of age story. It's really good for the kids, you know.
PHILLIPS: A lot of famous voices too, right?
MONTERO: Exactly. We have got Emma Thompson, Martin Short, David Hyde Pierce also, and including Johnny Rzeznik from the Goo-Goo Dolls, the lead singer.
PHILLIPS: Oh, wow. Does he sing? Does he sing in the movie?
MONTERO: Yes. Yes, he does.
PHILLIPS: Wow.
MONTERO: He does the singing voice of the main character. It's kind of like the theme song, kind of cool.
PHILLIPS: Oh, yes. OK. "Catch Me If You Can." I'm not saying that to you, I am talking about the movie, although I am always on the run.
MONTERO: That's the truth. That is true. Well, you'll definitely be able to be able to catch Leonardo this holiday season, because "Catch Me If You Can" is actually one of two films that is coming out for him around Christmas time. This one is by Stephen Spielberg, and it also includes Tom Hanks, so it is two big superstars, and Leo plays a con man, a teenage con man, who is being chased the entire movie by Tom Hanks, who is an FBI agent. So it is a chase.
PHILLIPS: You were saying too that there's been a lot of hype about this movie, it could be up for an Oscar?
MONTERO: Yes, well, there's been a lot of hype about the movie because it is Spielberg, DiCaprio, and Hanks. However, I wouldn't say that there's as much buzz about that film as there is about another film that he has coming out, five days before, which is "Gangs of New York."
And that's Scorsese's big epic, and that's the one that has sort of gotten a bit more attention because it was a huge filming challenge. I mean, the filming went on forever, and it was all of these sorts of problems and things to undergo.
So I think that, definitely, "Gangs of New York" has more of that buzz around it, but "Catch Me If You Can" is definitely going to be the more fun of the two, if I may say.
PHILLIPS: You always lead us in the right direction. Thank you so much. Ana Maria Montero, have a wonderful Thanksgiving.
MONTERO: You too. Eat a lot of turkey.
PHILLIPS: Yes -- oh, yes, I can't wait. Trust me. I know you will. We'll talk about that next week.
MONTERO: That sounds great. Thanks, Kyra. Have a good evening. Bye.
PHILLIPS: All right, Ana Maria. Thank you.
